ASSISTANT ROWING COACH / Part TimeSBS Rowing Seeks to Expand After Successful 1st Full Year LaunchThe Stony Brook School is looking for a talented, mission-aligned, Assistant Rowing Coach to support ourexpanding program this fall. The ideal candidate will possess a track record of inspiring high performanceand novice rowers to reach their full potential as cooperative teammates, conscientious leaders, andcompetitive athletes. Responsibilities include driving a launch and minibus (training provided). This seasonal,part-time position, reports to the Head Coach and Athletic Director.Established in 1922, The Stony Brook School is a diverse, co-ed, Christian, college preparatory boarding andday school (grades 7-12) situated on a beautiful 55-acre campus on the north shore of Long Island in NewYork. The Stony Brook School is known around the world as an institution that prizes academic rigor, culturaldiversity, civil discourse, and authentic Christian faith. Responsibilities● Cultivate a respectful, collaborative, and inclusive team culture aligned with the Mission of TheStony Brook School● Maintain vigilance as a supervisor enforcing safety protocol at all times, including monitoring forchanges in the weather● Assist the planning and implementing of daily training with the Head Coach's guidance● Assist in planning and communicating lineups, adjusting in response to attendance, preparationand ability.● Provide effective team-wide and individualized feedback regarding technique, fitness, andcompetitive strategies for optimal development.● Supervise equipment transport and safety checks, troubleshoot rigging, report maintenanceissues, and assist with inventory as directed by the Head Coach● Attend training sessions, coach's meetings, regattas, team events and assist with thesupervision of athletes during weekend regattas.● Timely, professional communication with the Head Coach, athletes, and parents● Influence recruitment and retention of team members by promoting unity and belongingAvailability● Fall Season; August 20 - November 20th● Spring Season; March 1 - June 5th● M-F Training 2:20 pm - 6:20 pm according to school calendar● Saturday Training 9:00 am - 11:30 am.● Weekly Coach's meeting (meal provided)Qualifications● 2+ years of previous coaching experience, or evidence of a successful rowing career includinghigh performance training on a college level or beyond● Proficient knowledge of technique, training methods, rigging, and race strategy.● Current: First Aid /CPR/AED & Safe Sport certifications (or will obtain prior to season)● NYS Boating Safety Certification (or will complete prior to first day on the water)● Commitment to prioritizing safety both on and off the water● Possess high energy, high career ambition, and strong ability to connect respectfully withteenagers from diverse backgrounds, while serving as a positive role model.● Eagerness to serve in a faith-based learning environment that emphasizes Christian values andcharacter formation● Excellent oral and written communication skills and ability to interact professionally with parentsand school community members● Experience working as part of a collaborative team of Coaches who are dedicated to improvingthrough providing and responding to constructive feedback● Availability to attend all practices (average of 25 hours/week) & chaperone 8 regional weekendregattas throughout the 2026-2027 year● Valid US Driver's license with a clean driving record and the ability to commute independently toand from campus as well as availability to certify in advance of the season as a minibus driverPreferred Experience● US Rowing Certification Level I or higher● Current Life Guard Certification● Proficiency rigging boats, experience maintaining equipment and contributing to inventoryThe culture of fellowship is sacred to this boarding school community.
