How much do rewards jobs pay per year?

As of Aug 18, 2026, the average yearly pay for rewards in the United States is $73,191.00, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $58,500.00 and $84,500.00 per year, depending on experience, location, and employer.

What is a rewards professional?

Rewards professionals are human resources specialists who design, implement, and manage compensation and benefits programs within organizations. Their job is to ensure that salary, bonuses, incentives, and benefits packages are competitive, fair, and aligned with company goals. They often conduct market research, analyze pay structures, and advise on best practices to attract and retain talent. Rewards professionals also ensure compliance with relevant laws and regulations while supporting employee motivation and satisfaction.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a rewards specialist, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Rewards Specialist, you need a solid understanding of compensation and benefits structures, data analysis, and HR principles, often supported by a degree in human resources or business. Familiarity with HRIS systems, compensation benchmarking tools, and possibly certifications like CCP (Certified Compensation Professional) are commonly required. Strong analytical thinking, attention to detail, and effective communication are critical soft skills for success in this role. These skills ensure competitive, fair, and compliant rewards programs that help attract, motivate, and retain top talent within an organization.

How does a rewards professional typically collaborate with other departments to develop effective employee incentive programs?

Rewards professionals often work closely with HR, finance, and department managers to design and implement incentive programs that align with business goals and employee needs. This collaboration includes gathering feedback, analyzing compensation data, and ensuring programs are both competitive and compliant with regulations. Teamwork is essential, as Rewards specialists must balance budget constraints, industry best practices, and employee expectations to create programs that support talent attraction and retention.

What is the difference between Rewards vs Compensation?

AspectRewardsCompensation
DefinitionBroader term including salary, benefits, recognition, and incentivesFinancial payment for work performed, such as salary or wages
FocusEmployee motivation and engagementFinancial remuneration
ComponentsSalary, bonuses, benefits, recognition programsBase salary, wages, bonuses
Usage in industryHR strategies to enhance employee satisfactionPayroll and salary administration

While both Rewards and Compensation relate to employee remuneration, Rewards encompass a wider range of incentives including benefits and recognition, aimed at motivating employees. Compensation specifically refers to the direct financial payments for work. Understanding this distinction helps organizations develop comprehensive employee engagement strategies.

How to get a job in total rewards?

To get a job in total rewards, candidates should develop knowledge of compensation and benefits strategies, often through a degree in human resources, business, or related fields. Gaining experience with HRIS systems, data analysis, and earning certifications like the Certified Compensation Professional (CCP) can improve prospects. Strong communication skills and understanding of legal compliance are also important for success in this field.

What are the most rewarding jobs?

Rewards jobs often include roles in healthcare, education, and social services, where making a positive impact on people's lives provides a sense of fulfillment. These jobs typically require strong interpersonal skills, empathy, and sometimes specialized certifications, and they often offer intrinsic satisfaction alongside competitive compensation.

At Zuora, we help businesses grow smarter and adapt faster. Our platform powers modern business models - from subscriptions and usage-based pricing to AI-driven and outcome-based offerings - helping companies launch new products, automate complex billing, and unlock predictable, recurring revenue.

We've led the Subscription Economy for more than a decade. Now we're evolving again by building the definitive platform for quote to cash and helping companies monetize their products and services with an adaptable, AI-ready foundation.

 The Opportunity

You will play a key role in enhancing Total Rewards operations and execution at Zuora across both compensation and benefits. In this role, you will help assess, evolve, communicate, and administer competitive Total Rewards programs that support all ZEOs.

Reporting to the Senior Director, Global Total Rewards, you will partner closely with ZEO Success and business leaders to deliver high-quality, white glove support while helping elevate Zuora's Total Rewards programs.

*
Pacific Time zone preferred.
This is a remote position, with occasional opportunities to gather with the team for office visits, events, or offsites. If you are located near an office, you are also encouraged to work onsite.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Leverage technology to conduct external market pricing and prepare pricing analyses to determine structure mapping
  • Serve as the key contact for participation in compensation surveys
  • Support annual compensation processes, including the Merit cycle, Corporate Bonus Plan, and Promotion cycle by:
    • Evaluating global salary structures and making adjustment recommendations
    • Testing and administering compensation processes within Zuora's pay software
    • Reviewing proposed pay changes against budget and for parity across teams
    • Calculating and analyzing bonus payments
    • Reviewing outcomes against budget
    • Analyzing process results and outcomes
  • Partner with HR Operations to support benefits-related onboarding, offboarding, and Total Rewards operations
  • Support administration of the annual U.S. Benefits Open Enrollment process
  • Monitor benefits discrepancy files and resolve eligibility issues in a timely manner
  • Serve as the main point of contact for benefits invoices, including reconciliation and coordination with vendors and internal stakeholders
  • Provide first-line support to employees by responding to benefits and compensation questions
  • Assist in the development and maintenance of employee communications, training materials, and benefits resources
  • Maintain and update policies, procedures, and documentation related to compensation, benefits, time off, and leave of absence programs
  • Participate in compensation and benefits-related projects, compliance activities, process improvements, and other initiatives as needed
  • Support leave of absence administration, including maintaining leave records in Workday, ensuring data consistency across systems, coordinating with managers on leave approvals, and responding to disability claims and requests in a timely manner
 About You

You are passionate about operational excellence and bring a strong attention to detail, analytical thinking, and a commitment to data integrity and accuracy.

You likely bring:

  • 2+ years of experience in human resources, global compensation, and/or global benefits
  • Strong proficiency in Excel or Google Sheets, including formulas, charts, graphs, pivot tables, and other advanced capabilities
  • Analytical and quantitative skills, with the ability to interpret data and provide thoughtful recommendations
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to work independently and manage projects and deadlines
  • A high degree of integrity, discretion, and sound judgment when handling sensitive and confidential information

Preferred qualifications:

  • Workday experience is a plus, with Workday Advanced Compensation experience preferred
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent relevant experience
  • Experience with compensation tools such as Pave or similar external platforms is a plus
 About the Team
  • You will be a critical member of Zuora's global Total Rewards team, an important strategic team within the ZEO Success function.
  • ZEO Success is Zuora's people-centered organization and includes Business Partners, Total Rewards, Engagement & Ops, and Recruiting. Our mission is to make Zuora the destination for top talent to thrive and do their best work. We do this by putting people first and cultivating an inclusive, innovative, and collaborative culture that enables all ZEOs, Zuora, and our customers to be wildly successful.
 Benefits

Zuora offers a comprehensive total rewards package designed to support ZEOs' wellbeing, growth, and flexibility. While specific offerings may vary by country, we typically provide:

  • Paid parental leave (including fully paid leave for eligible ZEOs, subject to local policy)
  • Learning & development stipend to support ongoing growth
  • Opportunities to volunteer and give back, including charitable donation matching where available
  • Mental wellbeing resources and support

*Benefits may vary by location; details will be shared during the interview process
