Server Job Description

Job Summary

The Server is responsible for delivering an exceptional dining experience by providing attentive, knowledgeable, and friendly service to every guest. This role manages the full table experience from greeting and order taking through payment, while supporting the overall flow and cleanliness of the dining room.

Servers are expected to work collaboratively with the entire front-of-house and back-of-house team to ensure timely, accurate service that reflects Iron Hill’s standards of hospitality.

Essential Responsibilities

Guest Service & Table Management

  • Greet guests promptly and provide attentive, friendly service throughout their dining experience
  • Take food and beverage orders accurately and communicate special requests to the kitchen
  • Deliver food and beverages to guests in a timely and professional manner
  • Check in with guests during their meal to ensure satisfaction and address any concerns
  • Process guest payments accurately, including cash handling and payment processing
  • Thank guests upon departure and ensure a positive final impression

Food & Beverage Knowledge

  • Maintain thorough knowledge of the menu, including food, beer, and beverage offerings
  • Prep light fare plates and desserts as needed
  • Adhere to state laws and Iron Hill alcohol service policies at all times

Dining Room Maintenance

  • Clear and reset tables according to restaurant standards to prepare for incoming guests
  • Maintain cleanliness of guest areas including restrooms, floors, and surrounding sections
  • Restock and replenish tablewares and food and drink prep areas throughout service
  • Dispose of trash and assist with general housekeeping tasks as needed

Opening & Closing Duties

  • Complete opening procedures including dining room setup, expo line setup, drink service setup, dessert counter setup, and appetizer line setup
  • Complete closing procedures including housekeeping tasks and polishing silverware
  • Efficiently prepare and shut down shift sidework within designated time standards

Team Support

  • Function as a Server Assistant when needed to support table flow and guest experience
  • Function as Host or Expo occasionally as needed
  • Support other front-of-house team members during busy service periods
  • Efficiently operate restaurant POS, scheduling, and communication systems

Physical Requirements

The physical demands listed below are representative of those required to perform the essential functions of this position.

  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods of time (6+ hours per shift)
  • Ability to lift and carry items up to 25–40 pounds, including full trays, stacks of plates, bus bins, and buckets of ice
  • Frequent carrying of multiple plates of food and full or empty trays
  • Occasional lifting of chairs, booster seats, highchairs, and tables
  • Frequent reaching, firm grasping, and fine manipulation throughout service
  • Occasional forward bending, kneeling, and squatting
  • Ability to push and pull carts of ice, glassware, and silverware
  • Ability to climb stairs and step stools where applicable
