To thrive as a Respiratory Aide, you need a basic understanding of respiratory care procedures, attention to detail, and at least a high school diploma or equivalent—some employers may also require certification in CPR or basic life support. Familiarity with respiratory therapy equipment, sanitization protocols, and electronic health record (EHR) systems is important for this role. Excellent communication, teamwork, and organizational skills help Respiratory Aides work effectively with patients and healthcare staff. These capabilities ensure safe, efficient care and support the smooth operation of respiratory therapy departments.

As a Respiratory Aide, your daily responsibilities often include preparing and maintaining respiratory therapy equipment, assisting respiratory therapists with patient care, transporting equipment to patient rooms, and ensuring proper cleaning and sterilization of devices. You may also handle inventory management, restocking supplies, and documenting equipment usage or maintenance activities. Collaboration with therapists, nurses, and other healthcare staff is an important part of the job, ensuring patients receive timely and effective respiratory support. These tasks contribute directly to the smooth functioning of respiratory care services within healthcare facilities.

What is a Respiratory Aide job?

How much does an RRT make in Ohio?

Registered Respiratory Therapists (RRTs) in Ohio typically earn an average annual salary of around $60,000 to $70,000, depending on experience, certifications, and work setting. Salaries can vary based on factors such as location, healthcare facility, and shift differentials.
