Job description

SRK Consulting is an independent, international consulting practice, providing globally integrated consulting services to the international mining and metals sector.
We are seeking a Water Resources Engineer.
Description of Responsibilities:
  • Consult on projects in North America and internationally, requiring occasional travel.
  • Support assignments primarily including hydrologic and hydraulic engineering work related to the mining industry.
  • Manage the performance of surface water control facility designs, including hydrologic analysis for peak flow determination and hydraulic analysis of flood control design measures.
  • Lead and direct staff engineers to perform project work and to carry out project work directly.
  • Facilitate proposal preparation, project management and execution, and development of deliverable reports and detailed engineering plan sets.
  • Perform Civil 3D grading and design of heap leach pad facilities and tailings impoundments and occasionally roadways.
  • Conduct mine water management system analysis via water balance modeling, hydrometeorological analysis, hydraulic design of pressure flow pipelines, and tailings facility dam breach and inundation studies.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Essential Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in civil engineering, or closely related discipline.
  • Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) in Nevada preferrable, or willing to obtain reciprocity in State of Nevada.
  • At least ten (10) years of professional experience.
  • Considerable experience and proficiency with the following:
    • Site plan design and Civil 3D grading.
    • Facility layout and optimization including volumetric calculations for large earth or rock facilities.
    • Rainfall-runoff modeling with HEC-HMS, HEC-1 or similar.
    • Hydraulic 1D modeling with HEC-RAS; 2D modeling with HEC-RAS or FLO-2D a plus.
    • Leachate control and collection system design.
    • Development of water balance models, both spreadsheet and model based (i.e., GoldSim experience a plus).
    • Surface water impoundment design (e.g., process ponds, water supply dams/reservoirs).
    • Statistical analysis of hydrological data (e.g., cumulative frequency analysis).
  • A solid understanding of the regulatory framework for mine permitting in Nevada (expertise with additional states is a plus).
  • Experience and enjoyment in guiding and mentoring junior staff.
  • A track record of developing and maintaining client relationships and working in a team environment.
