How much do residual commission jobs pay per year?

As of Jun 12, 2026, the average yearly pay for residual commission in the United States is $79,086.00, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $65,000.00 and $93,000.00 per year, depending on experience, location, and employer.

How does a residual commission structure impact my earning potential compared to traditional sales roles?

In roles featuring residual commission, your earnings are tied not only to new sales but also to ongoing revenue from your existing clients, meaning you continue to earn after the initial sale as long as the client’s account remains active. This structure can significantly boost your long-term earning potential, especially as your customer base grows and renewals accumulate. Unlike traditional one-time commission roles, residual opportunities allow dedicated sales professionals to enjoy more predictable and potentially increasing income streams over time. Additionally, this approach often encourages stronger client relationships, as ongoing service and support can drive both customer retention and your own financial success.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in the Residual Commission position, and why are they important?

To succeed in a sales role offering residual commission, you need strong prospecting, negotiation, and client relationship management skills, often supported by previous sales experience or relevant training. Familiarity with CRM software like Salesforce and digital sales tracking tools is typically required. Persistence, problem-solving abilities, and clear communication set top performers apart. These skills ensure you can build and maintain a loyal client base that generates ongoing commission, vital for success in positions that reward long-term revenue growth.

What is a Residual Commission job?

A Residual Commission job typically involves earning ongoing commissions from sales made to customers who continue to make purchases or stay subscribed to a service. This means that instead of a one-time commission, you receive recurring payments as long as the customer remains active. These roles are common in industries like insurance, SaaS, and financial services. Success in this type of job often depends on building strong client relationships to ensure long-term retention and continued earnings.
