EXCELย Summer Program Assistant

Program Overview

Theย IMSAย EXCELย Programย is a residential summer bridge and enrichment program that supports incoming IMSA students with academic preparation, skill development, and community building before the start of the academic year. The program emphasizes academic growth, student engagement, collaboration, and readiness for the rigor of the IMSA experience.

Position Summary

Theย EXCELย Summer Program Assistant supports the planning, implementation, supervision, and daily operations of the IMSAย EXCELย Summer Program. The Assistant works closely with theย EXCELย Director, faculty, residential staff, student tutors, and program participants to ensure a positive, organized, and academically supportive experience for all students. This position requires strong organizational skills, student-centered leadership, communication skills, and the ability to manage multiple responsibilities in a fast-paced residential summer environment.

Work Dates:ย Work will be completed Monday through Friday, between Wednesday, July 1st and Tuesday, July 28th. Hours worked will generally fall between 8:00am - 4:30pm. The dates of the EXCEL program will be July 5th through July 24th


Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesProgram Operations & Coordination
  • Assist theย EXCELย Director with the overall coordination and daily management of theย EXCELย Summer Program.
  • Support the implementation of academic, residential, and co-curricular program activities.
  • Assist in maintaining program schedules, attendance records, and operational documentation.
  • Coordinate communication between faculty, tutors, residential staff, students, and families.
  • Participate in program planning meetings, staffย trainings, and debrief sessions.
  • Assist with student check-in, orientation, move-in, and closing procedures.
  • Help ensure compliance with Academy policies, procedures, and student expectations.
Student Tutor Supervision & Support
  • Assist in the recruitment, selection, onboarding, and training of student tutors.
  • Supervise and support tutors in their academic and mentoring responsibilities.
  • Coordinate tutor schedules, classroom support assignments, and program duties.
  • Monitor tutor professionalism, engagement, and effectiveness throughout the program.
  • Facilitate ongoing communication between tutors and instructional staff.
Student Support & Engagement
  • Foster a welcoming, inclusive, and supportive environment for all participants.
  • Monitor student attendance, participation, and engagement in program activities.
  • Serve as a liaison for student concerns and communicate appropriately with program leadership.
  • Support student success through encouragement, accountability, and timely intervention when concerns arise.
  • Assist with supervision during academic sessions, evening study periods, meals, activities, and transitions as needed.
Family & Stakeholder Communication
  • Serve as a point of contact for families regarding attendance, schedules, program updates, and general questions.
  • Maintain professional communication with parents/guardians throughout the duration of the program.
  • Assist with the collection of participant evaluations, surveys, and feedback.
Program Assessment & Improvement
  • Assist in evaluating overall program effectiveness and student experiences.
  • Provide recommendations for program improvements and operational enhancements.
  • Support collection and organization of program data and feedback for future planning.
Additional Responsibilities
  • Participate in required staff meetings,ย trainings, and program events.
  • Assist with logistical coordination including materials distribution, meal coordination, and classroom setup/cleanup.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by theย EXCELย Director or designated IMSA leadership.

Qualifications
  • Bachelorโ€™s degree preferred; experience in education, student services, youth programs, residential programs, or academic support environments strongly preferred.
  • Experience working with high school students in academic or enrichment settings.
  • Strong communication, organization, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to supervise and collaborate effectively with student staff and faculty.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic residential program environment.
  • Demonstrated commitment to student development, equity, and educational access.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with summer bridge, enrichment, or residential academic programs.
  • Experience coordinating student support initiatives or academic intervention programs.

Work Environment & Expectations
  • This is a temporary summer program position that may require evening and weekend responsibilities.
  • Position responsibilities may include residential supervision support and participation in student activities.
  • Staff are expected to maintain professionalism, confidentiality, flexibility, and responsiveness throughout the duration of the program.
Compensation: This position pays $20/hr. This position is not benefits eligible.
