Planned Parenthood Great Plains is expanding access to care in Louisiana, with telehealth services expected to launch later this summer and in-person care planned to return to New Orleans later this year.ย Care in Louisiana will be provided by Planned Parenthood of Arkansas and Eastern Oklahoma (PPAEO), part of the Planned Parenthood Great Plains network of care.ย

ย 
Reproductive Health Assistants (RHAs)ย participateย in a team approach to patientย care which requires effectively communicatingย with patients from a wide range of backgrounds and ages and supporting their healthcare experience withย compassion and excellent care. The RHAย is responsible forย assistingย patientsย including, but not limited to,ย front desk operations,ย patient education,ย patient care,ย laboratory work, sonogram services, surgicalย supportย and recovery.ย ย These responsibilities require the RHA toย train and work at multipleย stations.ย 
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Front Deskย 

  • Performs front desk functions including answering phones andย greeting and checking-in patients.ย 

  • Financial Responsibilities: a) Collects health plan authorization, insurance cards with picture ID's, completes appropriate forms and obtains signatures per PPGP policy; b) Verifies patient's insurance, determines patient payment responsibility at the time of service and posts all charges and payments received at the time of service to the billing system; c) Enters data accurately for patient visits and fees in EMR/EHR to increase accuracy and efficiency of claims process; d) Maintains confidentiality, prepares deposit slips, runs end-of-day reports for delivery of daily deposit to bank as instructed by the Health Center Manager; e)ย  Adheres to all money handling procedures, collecting co-pays and other patient payments.ย 

Educationย 

  • Conducts patient educational sessions including providing informed consent counseling to ensure that the patient understands and agrees to theirย medical care, and that the patient makes voluntary decisions withย the absence of coercion.ย 

  • Counselsย patient on options after pregnancy,ย including:ย parenting, adoption and abortions.ย 

  • Provides clients withย accurateย information regarding PPGP services, including questionsย pertaining toย contraception, options, and funding sources.ย 

Laboratoryย 

  • Practice proper patient identification, label vials with patientย namesย and dates.ย 

  • Determineย bestย method for drawing blood depending on the patient andย collectย blood samples from patients.ย 

  • Prepares laboratory specimens; performs basic laboratory tests on the premises; disposes ofย contaminated supplies; sterilizes medical instruments; and performs other procedures as requested.ย 

  • Comply withย health center policy on leaving samples for transportation toย laboratory.ย 

  • Conducts tests according toย the Clinical Laboratory Improvements Amendments (CLIA)ย standards and adheres to OSHA regulations when handling biologicalย matter.ย 

  • Practice infection control standards at all times when working with patients and equipment.ย 

Patient Careย ย 

  • Verifies patient information by interviewingย patient; reviewing and/or recording medical and social history; taking vital signs;confirming purpose of visit or treatment, and reviews medications and allergies. Completes records by recording patient examination, treatment, and test results.ย 

  • Prepares patients for the health care visit by directing and/orย accompanyingย them to the examination room; provides examination gowns and drapes; helps them to position themselves for the examination and/or treatment; arranges examination room instruments, supplies, and equipment.ย 

  • Supports patient care delivery byย assistingย health care providers during examinations; prepares laboratory specimens; performs basic laboratory tests on the premises; disposes of contaminated supplies; sterilizes medical instruments; and performs other procedures as requestedย

  • Adheres to PPGPย policiesย regardingย professionalism,ย minimizing patient wait time in the Health Centerย and on the phone, adhering to the system to addressย patient complaints, and implementing patient satisfaction surveys following each visit.ย 

  • Supports and carries out PPGP's Mission: upholding the standards ofย high quality sexual and reproductive healthcare; providesย education that promotes informed proud and authentic sexuality; influencesย the culture throughย advocacy to ensure equality in reproductive and sexual decision making.ย 

  • Supports the onboarding of teammates

  • Additionalย responsibilities will be assigned as needed toย maintainย and improve effective functioning of the Health Services department and to advance PPGP's mission.ย ย All job responsibilities will be carried out under the direction of PPGP's policies and procedures.ย 

QUALIFICATIONS

Required Education and Experienceย 

  • High School diploma or equivalent required.ย 

  • Ability to work flexible hours, including Saturdaysย ย 

  • 1-2ย yearsย experienceย in a healthcare setting including electronic health records (EHR) experience. ย Epic experience is preferred.ย
