Job description

Mission Summary:

Motional is seeking a Director of Technical Program Management reporting to the head of TPM. This individual will own all technical programs within autonomy, and system performance and readiness. In this role, you'll be responsible for leading, mentoring, and growing a diverse team of technical program managers who enables the development of our Autonomous system. This role leverages a strong technical background to provide strategic guidance on planning and development activities, build execution, and risk management. This position offers a unique opportunity to combine deep technical expertise in autonomous system technologies with organizational leadership and executive exposure.

What you'll be doing:

  • Manage team and lead portfolio of cross-functional programs to launch fully driverless public ride-hailing service across multiple cities using Hyundai's IONIQ 5 robotaxi platform
  • Manage, mentor, and grow a team of Technical Program Managers; provide regular feedback, coaching, and performance management
  • Drive strategic alignment and facilitate communication across engineering and cross functional leadership
  • Partner with engineering leadership team on OKR planning, drive decomposition of objectives into quarterly goals and program plans with cross-functional teams, and lead technical and planning reviews to track and manage progress.
  • Define integration strategy for highly-complex autonomous sub-systems to ensure shortest critical path to fully integrated autonomous vehicle.
  • Partner deeply with product, marketing, and finance teams to ensure technical development aligns with organizational OKRs
  • Primary escalation point for the program with cross-functional leadership in Operations, product, marketing, and finance
  • Champion process improvements to streamline development cycles and facilitate feedback through internal design review processes.
  • Define and refine best practices for project schedules, build planning, and cross-functional workflows

What we're looking for:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering
  • 10+ years of relevant industry experience, with specific experience in a technical/engineering program management role
  • 5+ years of direct people management experience (leading teams of TPMs or Engineers)
  • Experience in robotics, applied AI / ML, or relevant complex technical domains
  • Experience working with engineering teams including mechanical, electrical, software and systems teams
  • Proven ability to drive cohesion, collaboration and decision making among different people & functions
  • Comfortable with working with remote teams, and international travel

Bonus points (not required):

  • Background in autonomous technologies, mobility or robotics
  • Advanced degree (MS / MBA)

This role is hybrid from our Boston, Pittsburgh, or Las Vegas office. It requires two in-office days each week, ideally Tuesday and Thursday.
