Job description

Since 1981, HMMH has been a trusted leader in studying, assessing, and mitigating the environmental impacts of transportation projects across aviation, highway, rail, transit, industrial, construction, military, recreational, and entertainment sectors. Our Aviation Environmental & Sustainability Group specializes in analyzing and resolving airport environmental challenges, supporting over 200 airports worldwide with noise and air quality studies, sustainability planning, mitigation strategies, environmental documentation, public engagement, and regulatory compliance.

We are seeking Technical Analysts at multiple experience levels to join our growing aviation environmental practice. This position may be remote or hybrid, with the option of working from any of our seven offices nationwide.

Position Overview

As a Technical Analyst specializing in the FAA's Aviation Environmental Design Tool (AEDT), you will contribute to the analysis and evaluation of environmental impacts-primarily focused on noise and air quality modeling for airport-related projects. You will apply your technical expertise in AEDT to produce high-quality, data-driven environmental analyses that support our airport clients and regulatory partners.

Candidates should have demonstrated experience using AEDT for noise and/or air quality modeling and be comfortable with occasional travel for fieldwork, client visits, or conferences. We welcome candidates with 2 to 12+ years of experience in AEDT or related environmental modeling who are eager to deepen their technical skills in a collaborative, innovative environment aligned with SHRM best practices for inclusive and equitable hiring.

Key Responsibilities

(Responsibilities vary by level; all roles focus on technical analysis and environmental modeling.)

  • Use AEDT to conduct detailed noise modeling, including developing accurate model inputs based on flight track and operational data to generate noise contours and other environmental metrics.
  • Conduct AEDT-based analyses for noise (e.g., NEM updates, Noise Compatibility Program support) and/or air quality (e.g., emissions inventories, NEPA-related assessments), ensuring alignment with FAA guidance and environmental regulations.
  • Perform fieldwork as needed-such as noise monitoring or on-site data collection-to support model development, calibration, and validation.
  • Prepare high-quality technical reports, presentations, and documentation that communicate complex analytical findings to technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Collaborate closely with internal technical teams, providing analytical support and contributing to multidisciplinary environmental studies.
  • Support or conduct research on aviation environmental and sustainability topics, including designing analytical approaches or applying emerging modeling methods.
  • Participate in internal initiatives such as developing AEDT training materials, contributing to process improvements, or supporting internal workshops and knowledge-sharing activities.
  • Represent HMMH in technical forums, conferences, or industry associations to advance professional expertise and support the broader aviation environmental community.
  • Perform additional duties as needed to support team and company goals.

Minimum Qualifications

(Qualifications correspond to experience level.)

  • 2-12+ years of experience in environmental modeling, with specific experience using AEDT for noise and/or air quality analysis in aviation or related fields.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in AEDT, including developing model inputs, running analyses, and interpreting results (level of autonomy depends on experience).
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in a technical discipline such as aerospace/aviation, engineering, environmental science, physics, mathematics, or a related field.
  • Willingness to travel occasionally for fieldwork (e.g., noise monitoring, data collection), client visits, or conferences.
  • Strong quantitative and problem-solving skills, with exceptional attention to detail and data accuracy.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills to produce technical deliverables and present analytical findings.
  • Effective interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams.
  • Participation in industry associations or technical committees is a plus, particularly for more senior technical roles.
