Job description

Job Title: Senior Mechanical Engineer (Supports) Location: Bellevue, WA Type: Contract Compensation: $69.00 - $115.00 Contractor Work Model: Remote – offsite Hours: 40.0

Overview System One is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to create design solutions for the design development of various reactor structures and components. Candidates must have extensive experience in structural equipment design. The Senior Engineer will report to the Reactor Enclosure System Component Manager. The Senior Engineer will work as part of a high functioning team of engineers and scientists focused on developing the design of next generation advanced nuclear reactors. The Senior Engineer we are seeking is a highly experienced engineer, preferably with a strong background in ASME Section III nuclear design. The successful candidate will be responsible for preparing and reviewing Design Specifications (DS) and Design Reports (DR) in accordance with ASME Section III requirements, as well as supporting licensing, compliance, and customer deliverables.

Responsibilities

  • Design solutions for reactor structures and components, ensuring compliance with ASME Section III standards.
  • Perform detailed design, analysis, and documentation for structural supports, including supports used in nuclear facilities.
  • Develop and maintain design specifications, calculations, load evaluations, and qualification reports.
  • Prepare engineering design packages, review calculations for accuracy and code adherence.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to define design requirements and optimize component performance.
  • Interface with quality teams, reviewers, and regulatory bodies for audits, reviews, and certifications.
  • Support material selection, fabrication, inspection criteria, and acceptance standards for Class NF components.
  • Participate in change management processes, nonconformance evaluations, and corrective actions.
  • Stay current with ASME Section III revisions, NRC guidance, and industry best practices.

Requirements

  • B.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
  • Minimum of 8 years of equipment/component design experience; relevant M.S. degree credited as 2 years, PhD as 4 years.
  • Experience in Design for Manufacturability (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA).
  • Deep understanding of structural and seismic design.
  • Experience with finite element stress analysis, mechanical analysis methods, and modeling tools such as ANSYS.
  • Excellent writing and communication skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, creative thinker.
  • Ability to work independently and on multiple tasks concurrently.
  • Familiarity with CAD; SolidWorks preferred.
  • Working knowledge of ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code Section III preferred.
  • High integrity, open communication, and team-oriented mindset.
