Job Description
KPFF Seattle's Structural Team specializes in the design of buildings that serve and inspire communities. We work on a diverse range of projects, including high-rise towers, office buildings, hospitals, medical centers, parking structures, and higher education facilities. Our engineers bring expertise in a wide variety of structural systems and materials, including steel, concrete, and mass timber. We collaborate closely with architects, developers, and other design professionals to deliver innovative, sustainable, resilient, and efficient structures that support the evolving needs of the built environment.
Located in downtown Seattle, our office is seeking an experienced Structural Engineer with between 4-7 years of professional experience. This role offers the opportunity to apply and expand your technical expertise and client skills on a wide range of impactful projects across the Pacific Northwest. You'll work closely with multidisciplinary teams, contribute to diverse building projects and materials, and continue developing your consulting skill set. as well as:
  • Independently perform structural analysis and design for scopes of work such as gravity framing, lateral systems, foundation systems, and other scopes of work using industry-standard software.
  • Develop 3D BIM models and construction documents, coordinating with project drafters, creating unique structural details, and engaging in multidisciplinary BIM collaboration.
  • Delegate and oversee tasks for structural designers, ensuring clarity of scope and technical direction.
  • Partner with project managers to plan and execute project work efficiently.
  • Work with the project manager to lead the construction administration process, including site observations, review of construction submittals, and responding to contractor questions.
  • Interpret and apply building and material codes such as IBC, ASCE 7, AISC 360, ACI 818, NDS etc. while aligning with KPFF and client standards and practices.
  • Engage in client meetings, track coordination items, and maintain strong communication with multidisciplinary partners.
  • Participate in KPFF's Forefront program, supporting mentorship, continuous learning, and professional development.
  • Contribute to a collaborative team culture that values creativity, curiosity, inclusion, and technical excellence.

Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
  • BSCE with emphasis in Structural Engineering
  • 4-7 years experience with a consulting firm

Preferred Qualifications:
  • MSCE or MSE with emphasis in Structural Engineering
  • Professional Engineering license in Civil Engineering
  • Structural Engineering license
  • Strong technical and organizational abilities
  • Experience in the design and construction of reinforced concrete, structural steel, wood, masonry, and/or post-tensioned concrete for primarily building structures
  • Proficiency with the following software, or similar software: RAM Structural Systems (RAMSteel, RAMConcept), CSI Software Suite (ETABS, SAP, SAFE), REVIT
  • Passionate about providing exceptional client services
  • Strong communicator and collaborator
  • Self-motivated
  • Ability to work with and lead junior engineers

Additional Information
Physical Demands:
  • Duties are primarily conducted in a standard office setting, requiring prolonged periods of sitting at a desk or computer table.
  • Occasionally may be required to lift objects weighing up to 15 lbs.
  • Occasionally visiting project locations and performing field inspections which may involve walking, standing, kneeling, or navigating uneven terrain.
  • Traveling to project sites or client meetings, which may involve driving or flying.

Compensation:
The base salary for this role is competitive and will be determined based on the candidate's experience, education, and skills. The expected range for a qualified candidate is $85,000 - $125,000 annually.
