What is a Remote Rural Electric Cooperative?

A Remote Rural Electric Cooperative is a member-owned, not-for-profit utility organization that provides electricity to people living in rural or remote areas. These cooperatives are established to serve communities that are often not reached by larger, investor-owned utilities due to distance or low population density. Members of the cooperative democratically control the organization and share in its benefits, such as reliable, affordable electricity and community development initiatives. Remote rural electric cooperatives play a crucial role in improving the quality of life and supporting economic growth in underserved regions.
