Job description

Job Title: Data & Systems Analyst - Modernization Location: McLean, VA – can be Remote (EST) Type: Contract to Hire Clearance: Ability to obtain a Federal/DoD Public Trust. Active Public Trust preferred About the Role The Data Analyst will support the Solution Architect in analyzing, validating, modeling, and documenting data and business processes that guide modernization efforts. You’ll work across technical and business teams to understand current-state systems, data flows, interfaces, requirements, and dependencies—and turn that information into clear analysis and recommendations. What You’ll Do

  • Analyze business processes, data flows, system interfaces, reporting needs, and modernization dependencies.
  • Develop and maintain data mappings, data models, entity relationship diagrams, process flows, interface inventories, requirements documentation, and dependency trackers.
  • Gather and validate requirements from federal stakeholders, product owners, vendors, subject matter experts, and delivery teams.
  • Evaluate data quality, lineage, system-of-record considerations, synchronization needs, and integration impacts.
  • Support conceptual and logical data modeling by identifying entities, relationships, attributes, business rules, and data domains.
  • Translate complex technical and business information into clear documentation, visuals, presentations, and decision-support materials.
  • Support architecture reviews, design discussions, trade-off analysis, release readiness, and dependency management.
  • Collaborate with engineering, testing, DevSecOps, security, data, architecture, and vendor teams.
  • Analyze APIs, data exchange patterns, workflow automation, interoperability, and legacy-system integration.
  • Identify and communicate risks, gaps, assumptions, inconsistencies, and dependencies.
  • Maintain organized analysis, traceability, and project documentation.
What You’ll Need
  • U.S. Citizenship and ability to obtain and maintain a Federal/DoD Public Trust. Active Public Trust or suitability is preferred.
  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • 3+ years of experience in data analysis, business analysis, systems analysis, requirements, reporting, data governance, systems integration, or a related field.
  • Experience with data structures, data models, business processes, system interfaces, reporting requirements, data quality, or workflow analysis.
  • Understanding of SDLC, Agile delivery, requirements traceability, and data analysis practices.
  • Ability to gather, validate, analyze, and document information from multiple sources.
  • Experience creating analysis artifacts such as data mappings, process flows, data models, requirements summaries, gap analyses, and dependency trackers.
  • Familiarity with APIs, relational databases, data lineage, system-of-record concepts, data exchange, and legacy/modern system integration.
  • Strong communication, critical-thinking, problem-solving, organization, and stakeholder-management skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Visio, and collaboration/documentation tools.
  • Ability to explain complex analysis clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
Nice to Have
  • Experience supporting federal/government IT or legacy modernization programs.
  • Background in solution, enterprise, or data architecture; application modernization; or systems integration.
  • Familiarity with AWS data architectures and cloud security, including IAM, KMS, encryption, data lifecycle, and governance.
  • Experience with SQL, data profiling, Power BI, Tableau, dashboards, or data visualization.
  • Familiarity with API documentation, canonical data models, ERDs, data dictionaries, data catalogs, or metadata management.
  • Experience with Agile tools such as Jira, Azure DevOps, Confluence, or SharePoint.
  • Relevant certifications such as CBAP, PMI-PBA, Scrum/SAFe, AWS Cloud Practitioner, or Power BI Data Analyst.
  • Experience using AI-assisted tools such as ChatGPT, GitHub Copilot, Amazon Q, Claude, or Amazon Bedrock for analysis, SQL, documentation, automation, or requirements work.
