Position Overview:

Freddie Mac, the country's largest multifamily lender, is recruiting for a position on the Real Estate Services team as a senior appraisal consultant. The Real Estate Services team provides technical services, standards oversight, and training for third-party property reports. The incumbent will primarily serve as an appraisal subject matter expert providing strategic consulting services on complex multifamily apartment properties and valuation-related matters.

Additional duties will include acting as a consultant to internal business areas on issues related to property appraisal and valuation; monitoring technical and regulatory changes related to real estate valuation; supporting vendor management and appraiser oversight activities; and participating in technology enhancement and process improvement initiatives. Our Impact:

Responsible for identifying, analyzing, and communicating property-related risks and appraisal issues that impact the valuation risk of Freddie Mac Multifamily loans. We regularly interact with the commercial appraisal community, our Optigo Lender network, and with internal Freddie Mac groups such as underwriting, production, legal, and asset management.

Your Impact:

You will serve as a member of the Real Estate Services team as a senior appraisal consultant, providing strategic guidance on valuation matters and supporting various business initiatives across the multifamily platform. Your expertise will help ensure sound valuation practices and mitigate property and appraisal-related risks.

Core Responsibilities:

Strategic Consulting & Business Support Activities - Provide consultation on appraisal and valuation matters to internal business partners - Respond to internal and external inquiries on valuation matters - Order and review appraisals for internal stakeholders, including for unstabilized/troubled assets - Assist with special projects and ad hoc requests

Appraisal Standards & Risk Management - Assist in the development and maintenance of appraisal standards, policies, and procedures aligned to industry best practices - Conduct compliance and quality reviews - Support risk management initiatives and provide subject matter expertise for appraisal-related policy updates

Stakeholder Relations & Communication - Provide appraisal guidance and feedback to lenders and appraisers - Coordinate with internal business partners in understanding property-related risk and impacts to value - Maintain relationships with industry professionals and vendors - Support contract management and vendor oversight activities - Participate in cross-functional teams and committees

Technology & Process Innovation - Participate in technology enhancement projects - Support digital transformation initiatives - Contribute to process improvement efforts - Assist with data management, reporting, and analysis projects

Training & Professional Development - Conduct training sessions for internal and external stakeholders - Participate in industry conferences and professional events - Fulfill continuing education requirements - Maintain current knowledge of industry developments

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree (BA or BS) from an accredited four-year college, or equivalent experience; graduate degree preferred

  • 5-7 years of relevant experience in narrative commercial real estate appraisal, with strong and credible expertise appraising multifamily properties

  • Certified general real estate appraiser (or equivalent) in at least one state

  • MAI designation from the Appraisal Institute strongly preferred

  • Experience reviewing third-party narrative appraisal reports preferred, including familiarity with property condition and environmental reports

  • Specialized knowledge of multifamily sub-property types or specific geographic markets is a plus

  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills

  • Strong analytical and technology skills

  • Experience in a financial regulatory environment preferred

  • Experience with data analysis and reporting tools preferred

This position has an annualized market-based salary range of $114,000 - $170,000 and is eligible to participate in the annual incentive program.
