What are some common challenges faced by remote prop traders, and how can they be managed effectively?

Remote prop traders often face challenges such as maintaining discipline without in-person supervision, managing the psychological pressure of trading independently, and ensuring reliable access to trading technology. Many firms also offer virtual mentorship and risk management support to help traders stay accountable and connected with the broader team.

What is the difference between Remote Prop Trading vs Remote Forex Trading?

Work EnvironmentTrading desks, proprietary trading firms, or remote setups with firm supportIndividual trading from home or remote locations, often independently

Comparison Search IntentHigh overlap in trading skills, industry, and certificationsFocuses more on individual trading, less on firm-based trading

Remote Prop Trading involves trading on behalf of a proprietary firm, often requiring specific credentials and working within a firm environment. In contrast, Remote Forex Trading typically involves individual traders operating independently, often from home, with less formal certification requirements. Both roles involve trading skills but differ in work setting and employer structure.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Remote Prop Trader, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote Prop Trader, you need a strong grasp of financial markets, quantitative analysis, and risk management, often supported by a degree in finance, mathematics, or a related field. Proficiency with trading platforms (such as MetaTrader or TradingView), algorithmic trading tools, and data analysis software is typically required. Standout soft skills include discipline, adaptability, and the ability to make quick, rational decisions under pressure. These competencies are crucial for consistently executing profitable trades while managing risk in a fast-paced, remote work environment.

What is remote prop trading?

Remote prop trading, or remote proprietary trading, is a form of trading where individuals trade financial instruments such as stocks, forex, or derivatives using a proprietary firm's capital, but they do so from a location of their choice rather than a central office. Traders are typically given access to the firm's platforms and resources remotely, allowing for greater flexibility and work-life balance. In return, traders often share a portion of their profits with the firm. This model is popular for its low barriers to entry and the ability to leverage firm capital rather than personal funds.

Job description

Summary

The Copywriter plays a critical role in how Topstep shows up across every channel traders interact with. This role exists to make sure every piece of content we put out, from emails and blogs to product launches and paid ads, sounds like Topstep, resonates with our traders, and drives action. This is not a support role. It sits at the center of Brand and Marketing and works closely with Trader Experience, Product, Communications, and Brokerage to keep messaging consistent, accurate, and on brand. The right person for this role understands our traders, moves fast, and takes pride in copy that actually performs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Write trader-facing emails across product launches, policy updates, feature announcements, and program changes that are clear, on brand, and built to convert.
  • Own blog content that educates traders on market concepts, trading strategy, and the Topstep platform in a way that is accessible and engaging.
  • Contribute to GTM campaigns, video scripts, paid ad copy, and product launch messaging from brief to final delivery.
  • Write copy for the brokerage side of the business in compliance with NFA regulatory guidelines.
  • Work alongside the Trader Experience team on trader-facing communications, updates, and announcements.
  • Maintain brand voice consistency across all channels while adapting tone for context and audience.
  • Audit and update existing content as products, policies, and programs evolve.
  • Collaborate across Brand, Product, Communications, and Trader Experience to ensure messaging is aligned and consistent at every touchpoint.

Required Qualifications and Key Competencies

  • 1 + years of copywriting experience in a professional setting with work that went live across email, social, blog, or campaign formats.
  • Strong writing skills with the ability to adapt tone and format across channels without losing the brand voice.
  • Genuine understanding of Topstep, our traders, and what we stand for as a brand.
  • Familiarity with trading concepts, futures markets, or prop firm culture, or a demonstrated ability to get up to speed quickly and write about them with confidence.
  • Comfortable working under NFA compliance guidelines for regulated brokerage content, or willing to learn and apply them consistently.
  • Detail oriented enough to get a compliance reviewed email right and creative enough to write copy that actually engages traders.
  • Comfortable moving fast, taking feedback, and iterating without losing momentum.
  • Strong collaboration skills with the ability to work across multiple teams and manage competing priorities without losing consistency.
  • This is an individual contributor role focused on hands-on execution, personal accountability, and subject matter expertise in copywriting and brand voice.

Company Culture & Perks

  • Topstep is an engaging working environment which ranges from fully remote to hybrid. We foster a culture of collaboration with cameras on during meetings and a robust Slack environment for communication.
  • Seven paid Company Holidays and generous Family Leave. Paid time off is front-loaded.
  • Competitive 401(k) matching, health, dental, and vision insurance is offered for full time employees.
  • Vacations are encouraged with a bonus for taking 5 consecutive days. Employee referrals are bonused. Topstep offers a food and groceries budget and contributes towards health and wellness.

New Hire Base Salary Range

  • $60,000 - $70,000.
  • Bonus: This position is eligible for a performance-based bonus as provided by the plan terms and governing documents.
  • The compensation offered will take into account internal compensation structure and may vary depending on the candidate's geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors.

Equal Opportunity Employer

Topstep is an Equal Opportunity Employer. We are committed to fostering an inclusive environment where all employees and applicants are valued. All qualified candidates will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, gender, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, national origin, age, disability, or veteran status, in compliance with applicable federal, state, and local laws.
