What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Remote Preneed Funeral Sales professional, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote Preneed Funeral Sales professional, you need strong sales acumen, knowledge of funeral pre-planning products, and often a state-specific insurance license. Familiarity with CRM software, virtual meeting platforms, and e-signature tools is typically required. Exceptional interpersonal skills, empathy, and the ability to build trust remotely set top performers apart. What is a Remote Preneed Funeral Sales representative?

A Remote Preneed Funeral Sales representative is a professional who helps individuals arrange and pay for funeral services in advance, typically working from a remote location. They educate clients about various preneed options, assist with choosing funeral plans, and complete necessary paperwork, all through phone calls, video meetings, or online platforms. This role combines sales skills with sensitivity to clients’ emotional needs, as it involves discussing end-of-life planning. Remote representatives must be knowledgeable about funeral laws, insurance products, and company offerings while providing compassionate and informative customer service.

Industry UsageSales of prearranged funeral plansArranging and coordinating funeral services

Remote Preneed Funeral Sales primarily focuses on selling prearranged funeral plans remotely, emphasizing sales skills and client outreach. Remote Funeral Arrangers handle the planning and coordination of funeral services, often requiring counseling and logistical skills. While both roles may work remotely, their core responsibilities and required credentials differ significantly.

How does remote preneed funeral sales differ from traditional in-person sales, and what unique challenges might I face working remotely in this role?

In remote preneed funeral sales, you'll primarily interact with clients through phone calls, video conferencing, and digital communication instead of face-to-face meetings. This means building trust and rapport with families relies heavily on your communication skills and your ability to convey empathy without being physically present. Common challenges include managing time zones, staying motivated while working independently, and utilizing digital tools to track leads and follow up efficiently. However, many organizations provide structured training, ongoing support, and technology platforms to help you succeed and collaborate with your team remotely.

Job description

Take the next step in your sales career with LocaliQ, a USA Today Co. brand, where innovation, teamwork, and results-driven success are at the core of everything we do. As a Business Development Representative (BDR) focused on Funeral Home Businesses, you will prospect, qualify, and generate new sales opportunities by engaging funeral home owners, general managers, funeral directors and marketing decision-makers.

This role is designed for individuals who are energized by high-volume outreach and motivated by measurable performance goals. You will play a critical role in activating new and previously active funeral home businesses through obituary placements, helping funeral homes build meaningful audiences for the families they serve and strengthen their connection to the local communities they support, while leveraging LocaliQ’s obituary marketing solutions.

LocaliQ provides ongoing one-on-one training and coaching, giving you the opportunity to build foundational sales skills in prospecting, messaging, objection handling, and consultative conversations, while preparing you for long-term career growth within a world-class sales organization.

About Our Customers: Funeral Home Businesses

Funeral homes are deeply community-centered businesses operating within a highly sensitive, trust-based, and relationship-driven industry. As a Business Development Representative, you will develop a strong understanding of the operational, emotional, and logistical challenges that can prevent consistent obituary placements, and work directly with funeral homes to help remove those barriers.

You will engage with key decision-makers and influencers, including Funeral Home Owners, Funeral Directors, General Managers, and Marketing Managers or external marketing partners.

Your outreach will include new prospects, currently active customers, and previously active customers, with a primary focus on activating and/or reactivating obituary placements. Through thoughtful, respectful conversations, you will help funeral homes expand the reach of the families they serve, build lasting local audiences, and strengthen their connection to the communities in which they operate.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct high-volume outbound prospecting (100–120 phone calls per day) to funeral home businesses.
  • Qualify inbound and outbound leads and set appointments with decision-makers.
  • Develop a working knowledge of the funeral home industry and local market dynamics.
  • Clearly articulate and understand the value of LocaliQ’s Obituary audience, rate programs, and technology solutions for obituary placement.
  • Accurately document activity, notes, and outcomes in CRM tools.

A Little About You
  • You are someone who thrives in a fast-paced, goal-oriented environment and is motivated by growth and performance. You bring:
  • A track record of high achievement or a strong desire to begin and excel in a sales career
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • A naturally curious mindset with a passion for learning how businesses operate
  • A competitive nature with a strong drive to meet and exceed measurable goals
  • High energy, self-motivation, and resilience
  • Comfort handling objections and rejection daily
  • Previous experience demonstrating the ability to meet or exceed expectations
  • Preferred Qualifications - Previous sales or customer-facing experience (phone-based preferred)

Training & Career Growth
  • LocaliQ invests heavily in your success. You will receive:
  • Ongoing one-on-one coaching and training
  • Exposure to digital marketing fundamentals and consultative sales skills
  • Clear performance metrics and advancement opportunities
