What is the difference between Remote Outdoor Design vs Landscape Architect?

AspectRemote Outdoor DesignLandscape Architect
CredentialsDesign skills, possibly certifications in design softwareLicensing, degree in landscape architecture
Work EnvironmentPrimarily remote, client meetings, design softwareOn-site visits, fieldwork, office and outdoor sites
Industry UsageDesigning outdoor spaces remotely, client consultationsPlanning, designing, and overseeing outdoor projects

Remote Outdoor Design focuses on creating outdoor space concepts remotely, often using software and client communication. Landscape Architects typically require licensing and conduct on-site assessments. While both roles involve outdoor space planning, Remote Outdoor Design emphasizes remote collaboration, whereas Landscape Architects combine fieldwork with design expertise.

How do remote outdoor designers typically collaborate with clients and onsite teams to ensure project success?

Remote outdoor designers often use digital collaboration tools such as video conferencing, 3D modeling software, and project management platforms to communicate effectively with clients and onsite teams. Regular virtual meetings help clarify client expectations and provide updates on design progress, while cloud-based document sharing allows for seamless feedback and revisions. To address challenges like site-specific measurements or material selection, designers may coordinate with local contractors or request detailed site photographs and surveys. This collaborative workflow ensures that design intent is maintained, even when working from a distance.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Remote Outdoor Designer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote Outdoor Designer, you need expertise in landscape architecture or design, spatial planning, and knowledge of horticulture, typically supported by a relevant degree or certification. Proficiency in design software such as AutoCAD, SketchUp, and Adobe Creative Suite, as well as familiarity with remote collaboration tools, is essential. Strong communication, creativity, and self-motivation are crucial soft skills for understanding client needs and working independently. These skills ensure that designs are both functional and visually appealing while meeting client expectations efficiently in a remote setting.

What is a Remote Outdoor Designer?

A Remote Outdoor Designer is a professional who creates plans and designs for outdoor spaces such as gardens, patios, yards, or commercial landscapes, all while working remotely. They use digital tools to communicate with clients, develop design concepts, and produce detailed visual plans and 3D models. This role often involves collaborating with clients virtually, conducting site assessments using photos and measurements provided by the client, and delivering design solutions that can be implemented by local contractors or the clients themselves.

Job description

Product Designer, AI Design Systems

About PropertyRadar

PropertyRadar is the hyperlocal lead generation platform that property-centric small businesses use to discover, understand, and connect with new opportunities. We turn complex public records data into actionable insights for real estate investors, agents, lenders, and home services pros.

We've been doing this since 2007. We're profitable, owner-operated, and small enough that what you ship matters every release moves the business. We're investing in a modern data and frontend platform to power the next decade of growth, and we're hiring engineers who can help us build it.

We're looking for a Product Designer who can help shape the next generation of PropertyRadar's product experience by building scalable, high-quality systems that work for humans and are structured clearly enough to support AI-assisted implementation.

About the role

You'll help evolve PropertyRadar's visual language, component systems, and design documentation so our interfaces are more consistent, more scalable, and better aligned with how modern engineering teams and AI-assisted workflows build software.

You should be equally comfortable auditing an existing product, defining scalable UI patterns, improving polish and consistency, and translating design intent into structured systems that engineers, and AI tools can reliably use.

What you'll do

  • Own product design work for key initiatives with a high level of autonomy
  • Audit existing product surfaces to identify inconsistencies, duplication, and opportunities for stronger systemization
  • Define and evolve a cohesive visual language that improves quality and consistency across the product
  • Build and maintain responsive, flexible, variant-based component libraries in Figma
  • Translate research, UX intent, and product requirements into polished visual design, flows, and interaction patterns
  • Partner closely with product and engineering to ensure design quality carries through implementation
  • Help structure design tokens, component definitions, naming conventions, and documentation so they are clear, reusable, and machine-readable where appropriate
  • Create documentation that reduces ambiguity for both human teammates and AI-assisted development workflows
  • Anticipate how design systems should evolve as AI design and coding tools become more capable
  • Continuously improve how design decisions are captured, communicated, and handed off

What we're looking for

  • 2+ years of experience in product design for web applications, SaaS products, design systems, or complex digital products
  • A portfolio that shows strong systems thinking, product judgment, and high-quality visual execution
  • Hands-on experience with AI-assisted design or prototyping tools
  • Deep experience building and maintaining design systems
  • Expert-level Figma skills, including variables, component properties, Auto Layout, and documentation best practices
  • Strong understanding of how structured design systems support implementation across modern frontend environments
  • Experience working closely with engineers and communicating design decisions clearly across technical and non-technical audiences
  • Strong aesthetic judgment, attention to detail, and organizational skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • A proactive, ownership-minded working style with the ability to move work forward independently

Nice to have

  • Experience designing for data-rich products, workflow-heavy interfaces, or B2B SaaS
  • Familiarity with design tokens, structured handoff formats, or system documentation standards
  • Experience designing for multi-surface applications such as web, embedded, mobile, or extension-based experiences

Why this role is exciting

At PropertyRadar, this role sits at the intersection of product design, systems thinking, and emerging AI-assisted product development. You'll help shape how design scales across multiple product environment, influence the quality and consistency of the customer experience, and build systems that make both designers and engineers more effective.

If you love bringing order to complexity, designing thoughtful interfaces, and building systems that will matter even more a year from now than they do today, we'd love to hear from you.

PropertyRadar Perks & Benefits

  • Place-based but remote-friendly
  • Position requires working USA Business Hours
  • Compensation $65,000 - $85,000
  • Flex-time off & holidays
  • Competitive medical, dental, vision, and 401K benefits
  • Collaborative, get-things-done culture that values both hard work and outdoor fun
  • Unique opportunity to make a difference for small businesses using data and technology
