Overview:

·       Our Insurance Defense Firm client is seeking an experienced Municipal Liability Defense Attorney to join its team and represent municipalities, public entities, and local agencies in a wide range of complex civil litigation matters.

·       The ideal candidate will have experience defending municipalities and/or public entities and be comfortable managing matters from initial case assessment through discovery, depositions, motion practice, settlement negotiations, and trial preparation.

What We're Looking For:

The ideal candidate is a motivated litigator who wants substantial hands-on experience representing sophisticated municipal and governmental clients. Candidates should be comfortable taking ownership of their matters, working directly with clients and senior attorneys, and handling a significant litigation workload.

Responsibilities:

·       Defend municipalities, public entities, local agencies, and other governmental clients in civil litigation matters.

·       Handle matters involving municipal liability, civil rights, police liability, premises liability, employment-related claims, and other governmental defense matters.

·       Manage cases from inception through resolution, including pleadings, discovery, depositions, motions, settlement negotiations, and trial preparation.

·       Conduct legal research and draft motions, briefs, pleadings, correspondence, and other legal documents.

·       Take and defend depositions of plaintiffs, witnesses, municipal employees, police officers, and other parties.

·       Communicate effectively with municipal clients, insurance carriers, claims professionals, opposing counsel, and courts.

·       Develop litigation strategies and provide clients with practical legal advice regarding exposure and case resolution.

·       Maintain an organized caseload and meet court deadlines and client expectations.

·       Meet a 2,200 billable-hour annual requirement while maintaining high-quality legal work and client service.

Qualifications:

·       Admission to the New York Bar required.

·       Experience in municipal liability defense, civil defense, governmental liability, civil rights defense, or insurance defense strongly preferred.

·       Experience representing municipalities, public entities, governmental agencies, or their employees is highly desirable.

·       Strong legal research, writing, analytical, and oral advocacy skills.

·       Experience handling litigation matters independently and managing an active caseload.

·       Strong deposition and motion practice experience preferred.

·       Ability to work effectively in a high-volume, deadline-driven litigation environment.

·       Comfortable meeting a 2,200 billable-hour requirement.
