Position Overview:

The Department of Healthcare and Family Services, Bureau of Claims Processing, Mail Control Unit, is seeking to hire a Mail Control Office Clerk who will complete vital functions for the Agency's customers and/or entities by sorting and processing mail in a timely manner within a high production work environment. The ideal candidate will possess the ability to operate office equipment including a copier and mail cutting machine. The candidate must be able to interpret and follow procedures utilized for sorting and processing various mailings received within the Mail Control Unit which at times will require staff to sit for long periods of time

Essential Functions
  • Under direct supervision, serves as a Mail Control Office Clerk and receives, reviews, and sorts mail from outside entities such as clients and/or entities within the Department.
  • Prepares mail for numbering and scanning in accordance with established methods.
  • Prepares mail that is returned to the Department as undeliverable.
  • Assists other bureau staff in the operation of the mail cutting machine utilized by the Department by sorting envelopes by size, "taping" envelopes to run through the machine, removing the cut envelopes and packing trays.
  • Follows verbal or written instruction, gaining experience and knowledge in and applying evolving automated office equipment and technology to the tasks performed.
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to the completion of high school.
Conditions of Employment
  • Requires completion of a background check and self-disclosure of criminal history.
  • Requires the ability to utilize and maintain state issued equipment such as a laptop.
  • This position is considered medium work as defined by the U.S. Department of Labor (20 CFR 404.1567(c)). Medium work involves lifting no more than 50 pounds at a time with frequent lifting or carrying of objects weighing up to 25 pounds.
