Job description

About the role

We're looking for an enthusiastic and experienced English teacher to join our growing online tutoring community. You'll start with a small caseload of a book club and a one-on-one student and take on more as we match additional students to you. This is a great fit for substitute teachers or classroom teachers looking to earn flexibly without the commute. This position is fully remote.

What you'll teach

  • Lead a small group book club (max 5 students). Guide discussion, build comprehension skills, and foster a love of reading
  • Provide private 1-on-1 English instruction for a 7th grade student, covering reading, writing, and vocabulary
  • Tailor sessions to each student's level, goals, and pace
  • Create or bring your own lesson materials. Can also provide templates if needed.

Who we're looking for

  • Current or former substitute teacher — public or private school background preferred
  • Comfortable teaching students from around 5th grade and up
  • Reliable, organized, and able to manage your own schedule and prep independently
  • Confident facilitating group discussions as well as one-on-one instruction
  • Able to provide or develop your own lesson materials and reading selections
  • Comfortable using video conferencing tools for all sessions

Nice to have

  • Experience running book clubs or literature circles
  • Familiarity with middle school ELA curriculum standards
  • Background working with small groups or differentiated instruction
