What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in the Remote Industrial Design position, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote Industrial Designer, you need expertise in product design principles, a strong portfolio, and typically a degree in industrial design or a related field. Proficiency with CAD software (such as SolidWorks or Rhino), 3D modeling, and design collaboration tools like Adobe Creative Suite or Figma is crucial. Self-motivation, effective virtual communication, and strong project management skills set candidates apart in a distributed work environment. These skills ensure high-quality, innovative designs are delivered efficiently while seamlessly collaborating with remote teams and stakeholders.

What is a Remote Industrial Design job?

A Remote Industrial Design job involves creating and developing product designs, user experiences, and functional prototypes while working off-site. Designers use digital tools like CAD software, 3D modeling, and collaboration platforms to communicate with teams and clients. This role requires strong creativity, problem-solving skills, and knowledge of materials and manufacturing processes. Remote industrial designers may work for companies, design firms, or as freelancers. Effective communication and time management are crucial for success in this role.

What are the typical daily responsibilities of a Remote Industrial Designer?

Remote Industrial Designers typically start their day by reviewing project briefs, client feedback, or team updates through digital platforms. Their core responsibilities include conceptualizing new product designs, creating 3D models and renderings, iterating based on feedback, and preparing technical drawings for production. Collaboration is key, so regular video meetings, virtual brainstorming sessions, and file sharing with engineers, marketers, and other designers are common. Additionally, remote designers often manage their own schedules, balancing independent creative work with clear communication to ensure project milestones are met.

Job description

About Nanit:
Nanit is moving families beyond overwhelm by transforming how parents understand their baby's early years. We combine advanced AI, real-world data from billions of sleep hours, and clinical expertise to deliver the clarity and confidence every parent deserves. Trusted by over one million families and backed by $125M in funding, we're building an entirely new category: predictive parenting intelligence.
Here, your work directly impacts millions of families. Our team of scientists, engineers, and parents is small but mighty - we share a mission to make early childhood easier, healthier, and more connected. If you want to work on technology that genuinely matters, join us.
About the Role:
We're looking for a hands-on, hardware-obsessed Senior Product Manager to own the strategy and roadmap for Nanit's physical product portfolio. You'll define what we build and why, translating customer needs into thoughtful, high-quality physical hardware products that integrate seamlessly with our broader Nanit ecosystem of software, data, and connected experiences.
This is a true hardware PM role with end-to-end ownership. You'll partner closely with Industrial Design, Hardware Engineering, and Supply Chain to define products from concept through launch, and own the ongoing performance and evolution of our hardware portfolio. You'll write the PRDs, make the tradeoff calls, and own how our physical products show up for customers.
What You'll Do:
  • Hardware Roadmap: Own the long-term hardware roadmap across cameras, accessories, smart textiles and new product launches, balancing customer needs, technical feasibility, and commercial opportunity.
  • Product Definition: Write PRDs, feature specs, and tradeoff analyses for new hardware products and SKUs. Make build vs. buy calls and prioritize feature sets in close collaboration with hardware engineering and industrial design. Leverage AI to transform legacy processes and deliver products faster.
  • Ecosystem & Experience: Ensure new hardware integrates seamlessly across Nanit's platform while helping shape simple, cohesive experiences for families over time.
  • Product & Commercial Strategy: Define product structure, including SKUs and bundles, and partner on positioning, pricing, and launch strategy across retail, e-commerce, and DTC channels.
  • Cross-Functional Leadership: Leader product development in close partnership with Hardware Engineering Team (electrical, mechanical, firmware), software, and algorithms to ensure alignment from concept through build phase, and mass production.
  • Commercial Performance: Partner with Finance to manage COGS and margin targets. Monitor sell-through, inventory health, and category performance to inform roadmap decisions.
  • Consumer & Competitive Insights: Use customer research, behavioral data, hardware benchmarking, and market trends to identify white space and shape the next generation of Nanit products.
  • Lifecycle Management: Make end-of-life calls on aging products and migrate users to new offerings without disrupting the existing experience.

Who You Are:
  • 6+ years of Product Management experience, with hands-on ownership of a hardware or physical product line at a consumer electronics or IoT company.
  • Track record of shipping consumer hardware products and iterating based on customer feedback, product data, and commercial performance.
  • Strong technical fluency with hardware development cycles, manufacturing constraints, and COGS optimization.
  • Experience writing detailed PRDs and partnering closely with hardware engineering, industrial design, firmware, and supply chain.
  • Comfortable with SKU planning, bundling, and packaging decisions across DTC, e-commerce, and retail channels.
  • Analytical thinker who uses data to drive portfolio and roadmap decisions.
  • Strong product judgment, with the ability to shape future direction while delivering high-quality execution.
  • An AI adopter who is using AI tools to overhaul the traditional product development process and accelerate time to market.
  • Comfortable thinking beyond individual devices to how products work together as part of a broader system.
  • Strong communicator who can effectively influence cross-functional partners.
  • Experience with wearable, sensor-driven, or connected consumer devices is a plus
  • Passion for building thoughtful, well-designed products that improve the lives of parents and babies.

Why You'll Love Working Here:
  • Hybrid in office schedule
  • Remote work from home month in August
  • Flexible PTO (we trust you to take the time you need)
  • Equity options so you can share in our growth
  • Paid parental leave for all new parents
  • Employee discounts on Nanit products
  • Work from home stipend
  • Monthly team events

EEO, Salary and Location:
This is a hybrid role that will require prospective candidates to be in our NYC office up to 3 days per week.
Salary Range: $180,000 to $220,000 base salary + plus equity and benefits. The base pay is one component of Nanit's total compensation package, which may also include access to healthcare benefits, a 401(k) plan, short-term and long-term disability coverage, and basic life insurance. Ultimately, in determining your pay, we'll consider your location, experience, and other job-related factors.
We are proud to be an equal opportunity employer. We provide employment opportunities without regard to age, race, color, ancestry, national origin, religion, disability, sex, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, veteran status, or any other protected class.
