Job description

SmartPlant 3D Administrator
Company Overview
At Mitsubishi Power, we're not just building better clean energy technologies; we're architecting a better future. Our team is boldly redefining power generation to accelerate the world's energy transition. We operate as one team, pushing toward our vision of the future. We value problem solvers, prioritize collaboration, and support each other in an inclusive culture built on accountability and authenticity by demonstrating our values: Safety, Family, Innovative, Inclusive, Accountable & Courageous. Together, we're building the future we all aspire to - making net zero a reality.
Role Overview
The SmartPlant 3D Administrator is responsible for the administration, configuration, and ongoing support of Hexagon Smart 3D (S3D) engineering applications and databases used across Mitsubishi Power's plant engineering and project execution activities. This role ensures system availability, data integrity, standards compliance, and effective integration of SmartPLANT tools with engineering workflows, while supporting multi-discipline design efforts across the Americas and global project teams.
Key Responsibilities
• Independently administer standard Hexagon Smart 3D project environments using approved standards, procedures, and change controls.
• Create, copy, configure, restore, validate, and maintain standard Smart 3D projects and the related site, catalog, model, report, and application database relationships within the assigned scope.
• Review project-initialization requests, confirm required technical inputs, identify missing information, and perform readiness checks before environments are released for engineering use.
• Provide routine and escalated Smart 3D application support and resolve routine and moderately complex issues involving modeling behavior, drawings, configuration, access, reference data, and standard integrations.
• Analyze logs, reproduce defects, identify likely causes, recommend corrective actions, and distinguish application issues from infrastructure, database-platform, cybersecurity, engineering-content, contractor, or vendor issues.
• Administer approved Smart 3D application roles and project permissions and coordinate infrastructure-level access, account, Citrix, server, network, and security requests with the responsible support organization.
• Prepare, test, troubleshoot, and implement standard catalog, symbol, specification, rule, bulkload, and reference-data changes after the responsible engineering owner has approved the technical content.
• Independently perform approved model imports, exports, project database copies, restores, and archive activities within the application-administration scope, and coordinate platform backup and recovery requirements with the responsible database administrator.
• Support and troubleshoot Drawing Batch, IFC, Name Generator, interference checking, drawing extraction, and related Smart 3D processes, and coordinate infrastructure-related failures with the responsible organization.
• Support assigned Smart 3D upgrade and migration workstreams, develop and execute technical and regression test cases, analyze defects, and coordinate user-acceptance testing with the responsible engineering or business owners.
• Support approved contractor, vendor, remote-engineering, and workshare activities, including technical readiness, access validation, model exchange, testing, and issue follow-up.
• Develop and improve administrative procedures, troubleshooting guides, checklists, application matrices, and training materials, and assist with onboarding and development of less experienced administrators.
• Independently manage standard assignments, identify recurring issues and process improvements, and escalate architecture, governance, production-risk, resource, or major technical decisions.
Requirements
• Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering Technology, CAD/Design Technology, or a related technical field; or an equivalent combination of technical education and relevant experience.
• Approximately three to seven years of experience supporting engineering-design systems, plant-design applications, CAD administration, or related technical environments.
• At least two years of hands-on Smart 3D or SP3D administration experience.
• Experience administering Smart 3D projects, environments, application databases, user access, and standard project configuration.
• Experience troubleshooting Smart 3D application, modeling, drawing, access, and reference-data issues.
• Working knowledge of Microsoft SQL Server concepts and Smart 3D database relationships.
• Experience supporting project initialization, standard environment setup, model exchange, and application validation.
• Ability to perform standard administrative work independently with limited supervision and to recognize when senior technical or management direction is required.
• Strong analytical, documentation, organization, and communication skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and support project schedules.
• Ability to coordinate effectively across engineering, IT, infrastructure, contractor, vendor, and remote teams while maintaining clear responsibility boundaries.
Preferred qualifications
• Experience with Smart 3D upgrades, migrations, or version validation.
• Experience with catalog, symbol, specification, rule, bulkload, or reference-data administration.
• Experience supporting Drawing Batch, IFC, Name Generator, Global Workshare, or distributed engineering environments.
• Familiarity with SmartPlant Foundation, Smart P&ID, Smart Instrumentation, Smart Electrical, or related Hexagon applications.
• Experience with PowerShell, SQL, Excel automation, or another scripting or automation tool.
• Experience supporting remote engineering, contractor, vendor, or workshare teams and assisting with technical training or knowledge transfer.
Why Should You Apply?
  • Excellent Benefits (Medical, Dental, Vision & 401K Matching).
  • Excellent development programs and advancement opportunities.
  • Tuition reimbursement and on-the-job training.
  • Paid vacation, sick time, and holidays.
  • Committed to quality products and services.
  • Great working environment and culture.
  • Employee Appreciation Programs and Events.
