The Role

The Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) Manager for Field Operations is responsible for leading day-to-day execution of EHS programs that support Forged Fiber 37โ€™s field workforce. This first-level leadership role partners closely with field supervisors and operations leadership to ensure compliance with applicable environmental, health, and safety requirements, drive hazard identification and risk reduction, and foster a strong safety culture where every employee is empowered to speak up and consistently choose safe behaviors across geographically dispersed teams. The position focuses on practical field support, coaching, incident prevention, and continuous improvement through consistent presence, training, and accountability.

The Main Responsibilities

Leadership & Field Engagement

Lead implementation of EHS plans, initiatives, and site/market actions aligned with company standards and regulatory requirements, reinforcing clear expectations and consistent field execution.

Serve as the primary EHS point of contact for field operations leaders; promote an environment where employees can raise concerns without fear of retaliation.

Coach supervisors, technicians, and contractors on expectations and safe behaviors; reinforce accountability through observations, timely feedback, and recognition of safe performance and hazard reporting.

โ€ฏโ€ฏโ€ฏโ€ฏโ€ขโ€ฏโ€ฏโ€ฏโ€ฏDrive safety culture initiatives using leading indicators (near-miss reporting, audits, pre-task planning quality); facilitate talks and field huddles that encourage participation, learning, and continuous improvement.

Regulatory Compliance & Risk Management

Support compliance with federal, state, and local EHS regulations (e.g., OSHA, EPA, DOT) through routine field verification and documentation.

Conduct and coordinate inspections, audits, and incident investigations; ensure timely corrective and preventive actions are implemented and verified.

Monitor regulatory and client requirement changes and communicate impacts to operations; help update procedures and training as needed.

Field Operations Support

Partner with field leaders to identify hazards and implement practical controls for technicians and contractors through regular jobsite visits and observations.

Support safe execution of work involving telecommunications infrastructure, including climbing, confined spaces, electrical hazards, and fleet operations, by verifying controls and addressing gaps promptly.

Review and coach Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs), pre-task planning, and safe work practices; ensure crews understand and apply requirements.

Incident Prevention & Investigation

Lead or support root cause analyses for incidents, near misses, and environmental events using a learning-focused approach; partner with operations to implement corrective actions and share lessons learned back to crews.

Track and analyze leading and lagging indicators (observations, near-miss reporting, audit results, TRIR); communicate trends, recognize positive behaviors, and drive local action plans to reduce risk.

Promote a reporting culture by encouraging timely reporting of hazards and near misses, closing the loop on submitted concerns, and ensuring employees see actions taken and improvements made.

Support initiatives that reduce Total Recordable Incident Rate (TRIR) and other key indicators through targeted coaching, audits, and follow-through.

Training & Development

Deliver and coordinate EHS training for field employees and supervisors, including onboarding and refresher training; reinforce expectations through toolbox talks, behavior-based observations, and field coaching.

Verify workforce competency in safety procedures, emergency response, and regulatory requirements through practical field verification; identify gaps and coordinate coaching plans while maintaining training records and qualifications.

Develop supervisors as safety leaders by equipping them to run effective pre-task plans, deliver consistent coaching, and model expected behaviors that strengthen a proactive safety culture.

Develop field safety champions and, where applicable, supervise/coach EHS coordinators or specialists to ensure consistent support.

Program Management

Administer EHS programs such as working aloft safety, ladder safety, electrical safety, fleet safety, ergonomics, hazardous materials, and emergency preparedness; ensure crews understand requirements.

Implement and monitor contractor safety requirements; review documentation and field performance to ensure alignment with company standards.

Use EHS systems and reporting tools to track training, inspections, corrective actions, and performance; provide timely updates to operations leadership.

Stakeholder Collaboration

Coordinate with HR, Legal, Operations, clients, and external agencies as needed to resolve safety issues and support investigations or claims.

Prepare and present routine EHS performance updates, observations, and corrective action status to operations leaders; escalate significant risks as appropriate.
