Job description

At Wisk, we're transforming the future of urban mobility through safe, all-electric, autonomous flight. We are a passionate team working together toward a sustainable future, solving high-impact problems that have never been solved before. By delivering everyday flight for everyone, we're making it possible to spend less time getting there and more time being there. If you want to be part of shaping the future of mobility, then read on!
We are looking for a Director, Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) to join our team. The goal of the Director, EHS at Wisk is to ensure that Wisk's overarching EHS strategy seamlessly supports our mission "Deliver safe everyday flight for everyone" and reinforces our foundational cultural behavior "Safety Is Our Cornerstone" at an enterprise scale. You will be part of the Production System team that scales Wisk's physical footprint, operational readiness, and regulatory compliance infrastructure as we move toward commercialization.
Due to the nature of the work required for this position, this is an onsite opportunity. You will be required to work from our Mountain View, CA office and travel as necessary to oversee other Bay Area facilities.
In this role you will lead the strategic vision, design, and long-term deployment of Wisk's global Environmental, Health, and Safety program across all corporate, engineering, R&D, and manufacturing environments. As an executive champion for workplace safety, you will champion a collaborative culture that bridges corporate EHS protocols with aviation-specific Safety Management Systems (SMS). You will serve as the primary advisor to executive leadership on evolving EHS regulations, risk mitigation strategies, and industry best practices. By managing a high-performing team of EHS professionals, you will ensure total operational compliance across all current and future facilities. Ultimately, you will drive a proactive, "Just Culture" framework that continuously reduces workplace risk while supporting rapid, cutting-edge aerospace R&D, certified production and flight testing.
What you will do:
  • You will be a member of Wisk's Safety Collective, working in strategic partnership with Safety Management Systems (SMS); Reliability, Availability, Maintainability, & Safety (RAMS) and the Quality teams, where you will closely collaborate to define, iterate, and champion the overarching safety strategy at Wisk
  • As the Director, EHS you will have independent authority over regulatory compliance, workplace safety and the EHS Management System, and will be shaping global EHS strategies unique to advanced air mobility
  • You will take part in defining high-level functional organization goals, steering annual budgetary planning, capital allocation, and resources to build an elite, proactive EHS infrastructure.
  • You will support Engineering, R&D, Manufacturing, Certification, Integrated Product Teams, and flight testing environments by ensuring specialized hazard mitigations are deeply embedded into their operational workflows.
  • You will help support problem-solving activities surrounding unique enterprise risks, including advanced electrical systems handling, composite manufacturing hazards, and chemical management protocol exceptions.
  • You will plan and execute regular executive-level compliance reviews, comprehensive facility audit programs, and internal incident investigation reviews to ensure a continuous loop of mitigation and improvement.
  • In some areas, you will be working closely with external regulators (OSHA, EPA, AHJ) and aerospace industry partners to advocate for and establish premier EHS standards for autonomous aviation operations.
  • You will be working closely with Boeing EHS to integrate Wisk EHS systems to Boeing's internal EHS standards, and be the Wisk lead for Boeing EHS audits of our facilities.

Requirements
  • B.S. or M.S. in Environmental Safety, Occupational Safety and Health, or a related engineering/scientific discipline with at least 10-15+ years of experience in EHS roles, with at least 10+ years specifically in an organizational leadership capacity.
  • You have worked in high-tech, mission critical, advanced manufacturing, aerospace, or safety-critical hardware development industries.
  • You have hands-on experience developing, scaling, and implementing comprehensive enterprise-wide EHS Programs from the ground up across multi-site organizations.
  • You have a deep and applied knowledge of OSHA, EPA, and local compliance standards, as well as complex accident investigation methodologies, root-cause analyses, and mitigation reporting.
  • You have led high-performing EHS teams who achieved measurable reductions in total recordable incident rates (TRIR) and successfully navigated strict regulatory inspections.
  • You have strong soft skills to influence both front line employees and those in leadership positions.
  • You are familiar with Emergency Response Program (ERP) development, crisis management protocols, and integrating occupational health tracking technology.
  • This role will require 40% of travel within the Bay Area to oversee all our facilities and flight test locations.
  • CSP or CIH certification preferred.
  • DOT hazardous materials and CA Title 22 (Div 4.5) certifications preferred.
