To thrive as a Remote Developer Advocate, you need a strong background in software development, technical writing, and public speaking, often supported by a degree in computer science or related field. Familiarity with developer tools, cloud platforms, APIs, and content management systems—as well as experience using platforms like GitHub and documentation tools—is typical. Excellent communication, community engagement, and collaboration skills are crucial for building trust and fostering relationships with developer communities. These abilities ensure you can effectively bridge the gap between engineering teams and external developers, driving product adoption and user satisfaction.

How does a remote Developer Advocate typically collaborate with engineering and product teams?

As a remote Developer Advocate, you will frequently collaborate with engineering and product teams through virtual meetings, asynchronous communication (like Slack or email), and shared documentation platforms. Your role involves acting as a bridge between external developers and internal teams, so you’ll often gather feedback from the developer community and relay it to shape product features or identify pain points. Building strong relationships across departments and proactively communicating insights are key to ensuring that developer needs are understood and prioritized, even when working remotely.

About the Chef Ann Foundation

Founded in 2009, the Chef Ann Foundation (CAF) believes that all children should have equal access to fresh, healthy, delicious food providing them the foundation to thrive and meet their true potential. We ensure that school food professionals have the resources, funding and support they need to provide cook-from-scratch meals that support the health of children and our planet. To date, we've reached over 19,000 schools and over 5.9 million children in all 50 states with our school food programming.

Job Description

The Senior Coordinator of Policy and Advocacy is a 12-month, term-limited role dedicated to supporting CAF's school food workforce policy portfolio. The primary responsibility of this position is leading CAF's School Food Workforce Advisory Committee-a national working group focused on dismantling systemic barriers to scratch cooking in schools through the lens of the school food workforce-through its next vital phase of work. In addition to managing the committee's day-to-day operations, this role advances CAF's broader policy portfolios on school food workforce development and ultra-processed foods through strategic research, education, and awareness-building. The ideal candidate will also provide versatile, as-needed support across the Policy and Advocacy team, helping to expand CAF's national thought leadership in these critical areas.

  • Act as the primary point of contact for all SFWAC members and external stakeholders.
  • Facilitate SFWAC meetings, overseeing agenda creation, official meeting notes, and technical administration.
  • Champion strategic goals, driving the implementation of committee initiatives and action items.
  • Evaluate growth opportunities, assessing the feasibility of expanding the coalition's scope, reach, and impact.

Policy & Advocacy Portfolio Support

  • Support key CAF policy portfolios, specifically focusing on school food workforce development and ultra-processed foods.
  • Drive engagement by conducting research, developing educational content, and executing public awareness-building initiatives.

Other duties assigned within the scope of this position.

Position Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree or a high school diploma and 4 years of equivalent experience.
  • Demonstrated experience or knowledge in school food, food systems, or workforce development.
  • 4+ years of experience in public policy, with a preference for work in the anti-hunger, nutrition, or workforce development sectors.
  • Strong project management skills, including effective time management and clear communication.
  • Ability to travel for work (1-2 trips annually).
  • Ability to work virtually.
  • Proficient in Asana or PM Software, G Suite, VirtualMeetings, Salesforce or other CRM.

Preferred Education, Formal Training, and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Political Science or Public Policy
  • Background working directly with K-12 school meal programs.
  • Experience managing policy coalitions and stakeholder partnerships.
  • Proficiency in public policy analysis.
  • Demonstrated ability to write and draft concise policy briefs.

Essential Traits

  • A passion for food systems and a strong interest in childhood wellness; demonstrated commitment to school food reform;
  • Ability to learn and engage with learning technology programs;
  • Ability to balance and prioritize competing timelines/deliverables;
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including editing;
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively;
  • Exceptional attention to detail and organizational skills;
  • Flexible mindset and innovative thinker;
  • Willingness to engage in continuous learning and training.

Compensation

Compensation ranges between $27.25 - $34.98 per hour and will be commensurate with the candidate's previous experience and credentials. The Chef Ann Foundation is a great place to work. It provides its staff with a competitive benefits package, including medical, pharmacy, dental, vision, short-term disability, long-term disability, group life insurance, accident insurance, critical illness insurance, hospital indemnity, 403(b) retirement plan with a match, paid parental and sabbatical leaves, holidays & paid time off.
