Job description

As a Senior Brand Designer at Marqeta, you will play a pivotal role in defining and executing engaging, performance-driven work as part of the Content and Creative team. You will be responsible for ideation, exploration, and implementation of visuals across mediums and channels with an eye toward continual up-leveling of our campaigns and the Marqeta brand. Beyond the ability to create beautiful work, you are an ambitious, detail-oriented designer with a passion for process, comfortability with feedback and iteration, and strong foundation in the fundamentals. You anchor your design work in solving the business problem at hand and you know the value of a thoughtful design system.
We are a small-but-mighty team, so excellent communication, organization, proactivity, and follow-through are key. We are highly collaborative and we count on each other for the collaboration that makes our work better (and more fun!).
We work Flexible First. This role can be performed remote within the United States or from our Oakland, CA or New York City offices. We'd love for you to join us!
NOTE: if you are based within 35 miles of our Oakland, California, New York City (Midtown) or London office, you will be expected to be in-office 2 days / week. The Talent team will share more details if selected for the Recruiter Interview.
The Impact You'll Have
  • Creating visual systems that tell clear stories, and leave an impression on our audiences and Marqeta's visual brand.
  • Producing end to end creative for campaigns, across various channels and brand surfaces.
  • Building wireframes and create visuals for responsive web experiences that drive conversion
  • Collaborating with cross-functional stakeholders to define strategic approach and design effective, compelling presentations
  • Help scale our design impact by implementing design systems, leveraging automation tools. building effective templates, collaborating with our data and insights teams to test and optimize our work, and evolving/adjusting our processes for an increasingly efficient workflow.
Who You Are
  • Bachelor's degree in graphic design or related field, or equivalent work experience
  • 10+ years experience in brand design, in house or agency
  • Portfolio of work that demonstrates excellent design across a range of channels/surfaces and strong process
  • You are skilled in Figma (collaborative use of features including building and using brand libraries, variables and components), Adobe Creative Suite (3D and motion preferred), and Google Docs.
  • Your design principles and fundamentals are excellent: layout, hierarchy, balance, typography, color theory
  • You have pixel-perfect attention to detail. Uneven margins bug you!
  • You "show your work" through process and iteration, demonstrated in portfolio
  • You take a generous approach to collaboration: giving and receiving feedback freely and openly in design crits with a kind, constructive mindset
  • You are flexible and adaptable to create great work in a fast moving, dynamic environment
  • You manage your calendar and work flow effectively to maximize your productivity
  • You have a spirit of curiosity and a drive to seek new ground. You desire to learn new things to address skills gaps on the team and drive your personal and career growth

Compensation and Benefits
Marqeta is a Flex First company which allows you to choose your best working environment, whether that be from home or at a company office. To support Flex First, we calibrate pay to a competitive value according to working location. Compensation is aligned according to three tiers within the United States:
  • National: A baseline tier that applies to most of the geographic territory of the United States.
  • Premium: Slightly elevated from the National tier, and oriented toward a narrower set of higher cost-of-living areas, such as Los Angeles CA and Seattle WA
  • Premium Plus: A tier for the most expensive working areas, like the San Francisco Bay area and New York City.

When determining salaries, we consider several factors including, but not limited to, skills, prior experience, and work location. The new-hire base salary range for this position is:
  • National: $98,200 - $122,700
  • Premium: $106,200 - $132,800
