AIS is seeking certified Teachers of the Visually Impaired (TVIs) to join our team of independent contractors and provide remote services. TVIs serve as itinerant providers, partnering with local school divisions to deliver high‐quality instruction and support to students with visual impairments and blindness. Both full‐time and part‐time opportunities are available.

Role Summary
TVIs serve as integral members of each student’s educational team, conducting comprehensive assessments and delivering specialized instruction to school‐aged students with visual impairments. The TVI collaborates in the development and implementation of IEPs and ensures all services reflect current best practices in the field.
Candidates must possess a strong understanding of assessment and instructional strategies, evidence‐based practices, and both low‐ and high‐tech assistive technologies relevant to visual impairments. A clear understanding of a TVIs professional responsibilities in a school setting is essential.
Qualifications
- Must hold a Professional License in Visual Impairments
- Preferred: Prior experience working as a TVI
Requirements
- Current, valid licensure in Visual Impairments
The Ideal Candidate Will Have:
- Strong knowledge of special education regulations, policies, and procedures
- Experience providing high‐quality services remotely
- Experience writing, implementing, and monitoring IEPs and 504 Plans
- Skill in conducting and documenting FVLMA assessments and recommendations
- Working knowledge of Braille, low‐vision strategies, and specialized instructional techniques
- Experience providing consultation and training to teachers, staff, and service providers
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, organizational, and conflict‐resolution skills
- Comprehensive understanding of the characteristics and needs of learners with diverse disabilities, especially visual impairments
- Ability to recognize individual student needs and respond effectively
- Ability to collaborate with parents, school teams, and other service providers in a professional, cooperative manner
