What are some common challenges remote couples therapists face, and how can they manage them effectively?

Remote couples therapists often encounter challenges such as maintaining client engagement over video calls, ensuring privacy for both partners, and navigating technical difficulties. Successful therapists address these issues by setting clear expectations for sessions, encouraging clients to create a private, distraction-free environment, and being proactive about backup communication methods. Regular check-ins on the therapeutic process and strong communication skills help foster a safe, collaborative atmosphere, even in a virtual setting.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Remote Couples Therapist, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote Couples Therapist, you need a graduate degree in counseling or psychology, state licensure, and specialized training in couples therapy methodologies. Proficiency with telehealth platforms, secure video conferencing tools, and electronic health records is essential for remote practice. Strong active listening, empathy, and conflict resolution skills help therapists build rapport and guide couples through sensitive issues. These competencies are vital for delivering effective, ethical, and supportive therapy in a virtual environment.

What are remote couples?

Remote couples are two people in a romantic relationship who work together remotely, often in jobs that allow them to travel or live in different locations while maintaining their careers. These roles can include remote customer service, virtual assistance, content creation, or other work-from-anywhere opportunities that both partners can pursue together. This lifestyle enables couples to spend more time together, manage their own schedules, and explore new places while working. Support Healing. Build Bravery. Deepen Relationships. Grow Your Craft.

Are you a pre-licensed clinician passionate about helping people build stronger, healthier relationshipsโ€”whether with kids, between partners or within families?

Relationship HQ is seeking a warm, thoughtful, and growth-oriented therapist to join our team. This is an ideal opportunity for someone working toward licensure who is eager to deepen their clinical work with couples, children and adolescents in a supportive, supervision-rich environment.

This role is especially well-suited for someone who ultimately wants to launch their own private practice. We see this position as a bridgeโ€”not just a jobโ€”and are committed to mentoring the right person toward long-term success and clinical independence.

What Weโ€™re Looking For:

  • A pre-licensed therapist (e.g., LMSW, MHC-LP, MFT-LP) in New York or New Jersey

  • Passion for relational work, with interest in:

  • Working with couples around communication, connection, and conflict resolution

  • Supporting young children and/or adolescents using cognitive-behavioral, developmentally attuned, culturally responsive approaches

  • Committed to practicing from an identity-affirming and relational lens

  • Open to learning and feedback; eager to grow clinical skill

  • Interested in building a long-term, sustainable practice grounded in meaningful therapeutic work

What We Offer:

  • Weekly supervision with experienced licensed clinicians trained in Emotionally Focused Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and child/family work

  • Mentorship and guidance for those looking to eventually open their own practice

  • Flexible scheduling and hybrid/remote options

  • A practice culture rooted in warmth, integrity, and a shared commitment to relational healing

About Us:

Relationship HQ is a boutique psychotherapy practice that helps people โ€œhuman betterโ€โ€”through how we relate, communicate, and care for one another. We specialize in relational therapy with individuals, couples, children and families, and believe that therapy should be both affirming and transformative.
