What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Remote Bicycle Shop Manager, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote Bicycle Shop Manager, you need in-depth knowledge of bicycle mechanics, retail operations, and customer service, often supported by experience in the cycling industry. Familiarity with e-commerce platforms, inventory management systems, and point-of-sale (POS) software is typically required. Strong communication, problem-solving, and self-motivation are crucial soft skills for managing remote operations and engaging with customers effectively. These skills ensure smooth business operations, high-quality customer support, and successful online sales in a competitive market.

What is a remote bicycle shop?

A remote bicycle shop is a business that offers bicycle sales, maintenance, and repair services without requiring customers to visit a physical storefront. Instead, services are provided online, through mobile mechanics who travel to customers, or by shipping bikes and parts directly to customers' homes. These shops often allow customers to schedule repairs, order bikes or accessories, and get expert advice through their website or app. The remote model provides convenience and flexibility for cyclists who prefer not to visit a traditional bike shop.

What are some common challenges faced when working in a remote bicycle shop support role, and how can applicants prepare for them?

Working in a remote bicycle shop support role often means assisting customers with technical questions, troubleshooting bike issues remotely, and helping with online orders. One common challenge is diagnosing mechanical problems without seeing the bike in person, which requires strong communication skills and a solid understanding of bike components. Applicants can prepare by familiarizing themselves with common bicycle issues, practicing clear written and verbal communication, and becoming comfortable with video calls or chat support tools. Being proactive and patient is key to successfully guiding customers through repairs or product selections from a distance.

XDS is seeking a Field Sales Representative to join us on this ground-floor opportunity to establish XDS in the North American market. This is a hands-on, field-based sales role focused on opening new dealer accounts and getting XDS bikes on shop floors across a defined territory. You’ll be out in-market most days, walking into stores, having real conversations with shop owners and managers, and building relationships face to face. This role is about laying the groundwork for XDS in North America and being the brand’s presence on the ground.

The territory for this position will include California, Oregon, and Washington.

What You’ll Do

  • Visit bike shops regularly to introduce XDS, open new accounts, and grow relationships

  • Prospect in person within your territory, including cold walk-ins

  • Take deals from first conversation through initial order

  • Train shop staff on product and positioning

  • Keep a pulse on competitors, pricing, and local market dynamics

  • Represent XDS in a professional, consistent way

You’re a Great Fit With:

  • Experience in the cycling industry and with bicycle shops (mandatory)

  • 5+ years of sales experience built on relationships, not just inbound leads

  • Ability to build interest and convert into sales

  • Comfort and flexibility with traveling, opening doors, and starting conversations in person

  • Strong organization and follow up skills

  • Background or interest in cycling or performance sports

Success Metrics (1st Year)

  • Opening new dealer accounts

  • Hitting agreed revenue targets

  • Establishing active dealers and demo placements

  • Maintaining a healthy pipeline and consistent territory coverage

Our Compensation and Benefits

  • Salary plus commission structure (expected OTE $125k)

  • Demo bike fleet and comprehensive travel allowances

  • Remote-focused role

  • Office space in beautiful Santa Monica, California

Compensation Range: $65K - $70K
