Job description

Position Summary

JetBlue is seeking a strategic and business-minded Vice President & Associate General Counsel to lead key areas of the Company’s legal function, with a focus on commercial transactions. A background in leading, negotiating, and drafting corporate transactions, including real estate, with knowledge of privacy and data governance, and emerging technology (including AI) would be ideal. This executive will partner closely with senior leadership to enable innovation while managing legal and regulatory risk in a highly dynamic, consumer-facing, and regulated industry. The ideal candidate brings deep expertise in complex commercial contracting, privacy and technology regulation, infrastructure and real estate matters. This role requires an ability to navigate across the organization, to influence and build consensus. The role requires strategic thinking, as well as a person who rolls up their sleeves to dive into diverse subject matter areas.This role reports to the General Counsel and serves as a trusted advisor across the organization, helping drive strategic initiatives consistent with JetBlue’s values of Safety, Caring, Integrity, Passion, and Fun.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Structure, draft, and negotiate complex commercial agreements, including sourcing, technology, digital, operations, and strategic partnerships
  • Advise on real estate and infrastructure matters, including airport agreements, leases, facilities development, and related transactions
  • Provide legal oversight for emerging technology initiatives, including AI governance and responsible innovation
  • Track record of leading complex, high-value commercial and strategic transactions,
  • Manage outside counsel and external advisors effectively and efficiently
  • Lead and develop a high-performing team of legal professionals
  • Take a significant role in the development of crewmembers to support their engagement, growth, and goal achievement  
  • Other duties as assigned   

Minimum Experience and Qualifications

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree and admission to practice law in at least one U.S. jurisdiction
  • Ten (10) years of relevant experience in a major law firm and/or in-house legal department
  • Significant experience drafting and negotiating complex commercial and technology agreements
  • Experience advising on real estate transactions and infrastructure-related agreements
  • Deep knowledge of U.S. privacy laws (e.g., CCPA/CPRA) and familiarity with global data protection frameworks (e.g., GDPR)
  • Demonstrated ability to design and implement compliance and risk mitigation programs.
  • Strong executive presence and ability to influence senior stakeholders
  • Exceptional judgment, business acumen, and solution-oriented mindset
  • Available for occasional overnight travel (10%)
  • Must pass a pre-employment drug test
  • Must be legally eligible to work in the country in which the position is located
  • Authorization to work in the US is required, this position is not eligible for visa sponsorship 

Preferred Experience and Qualifications

  • Lead JetBlue’s legal strategy for privacy, data governance, and cybersecurity, ensuring compliance with evolving domestic and international regulations.
  • Experience in aviation, transportation, or other highly regulated industries strongly preferred
  • Prior in-house legal leadership experience at the officer or equivalent level and experience advising executive level
  • Demonstrated expertise in technology transactions, digital platforms, mobile apps and emerging technologies (including AI); experience with cloud and Saas technology procurement
  • Experience building and leading global privacy and data governance programs; relevant certifications (e.g., CIPP) a plus
  • Experience managing regulatory investigations, cybersecurity incidents, or crisis response
  • International legal experience across multiple jurisdictions
  • Proven ability to lead, develop, and scale high-performing legal teams

Crewmember Expectations: 

  • Regular attendance and punctuality; full remote not available
  • Potential need to work flexible hours and be available to respond on short notice
  • Able to maintain a professional appearance
  • When working or traveling on JetBlue flights, and if time permits, all capable crewmembers are asked to assist with light cleaning of the aircraft
  • Promote JetBlue's #1 value of safety as a Safety Ambassador, supporting JetBlue's Safety Management System (SMS) components, Safety Policy and behavioral standards
  • Identify safety and security concerns, issues, incidents or hazards that should be reported and report them whenever possible and by any means necessary including JetBlue's confidential reporting systems (Aviation Safety Action Program (ASAP) or Safety Action Report (SAR))
  • Responsible for adhering to all applicable laws, regulations (FAA, OSHA, DOT, etc.) and Company policies, procedures and risk controls
  • Must be an appropriate organizational fit for the JetBlue culture, that is, exhibit the JetBlue values of Safety, Caring, Integrity, Passion and Fun
  • Responsible for ensuring crewmembers have requisite training, resources and support to achieve safety objectives
  • The use of ChatGPT or any other automated tool during the interview process will disqualify a candidate from being considered for the position

Compensation: 

  • The base pay range for this position is between $240,000.00 and $330,000.00 per year. Base pay is one component of JetBlue’s total compensation package, which may also include performance bonuses, restricted stock units, as well as access to healthcare benefits, a 401(k) plan and company match, crewmember stock purchase plan, short-term and long-term disability coverage, basic life insurance, free space available travel on JetBlue, and more.
