Position Title: AV DESIGNER 

Salary: $78000 - $88000 / year

Job Summary

The AV Designer is responsible for independently producing high-quality audiovisual system designs and documentation across a diverse portfolio of projects. This role owns assigned design scope, makes routine technical decisions, coordinates with project teams, and delivers clear, coordinated, and biddable documentation.

The AV Designer participates in technical and peer reviews, incorporates feedback, and escalates risks or decisions that exceed the role's authority or experience.

Responsibilities

  • Project Delivery
    • Independently execute assigned AV project scope within established schedule, effort, and quality expectations.
    • Coordinate assigned work with project leadership, other designers, BIM personnel, and external disciplines.
    • Track open items, communicate status, and escalate constraints or risks promptly.
  • Technical Execution
    • Develop audiovisual drawings, models, schedules, details, specifications, calculations, and supporting documentation.
    • Design audio, video, control, collaboration, conferencing, digital signage, projection, and related systems appropriate to assigned scope.
    • Apply Waveguide standards, project criteria, and established design practices.
    • Research products and technical requirements when needed.
  • Quality Assurance
    • Perform self-review before submitting work for formal review.
    • Participate in peer reviews and may review defined portions of work when assigned.
    • Resolve review comments completely and incorporate lessons learned into future work.
  • Collaboration
    • Coordinate with Project Consultants, AV team members, IT designers, BIM personnel, architects, engineers, contractors, and clients.
    • Communicate technical assumptions, coordination needs, and unresolved issues clearly.
  • Professional Development
    • Build expertise through project experience, training, certifications, and manufacturer education.
    • Contribute useful knowledge, details, and lessons learned to the team.
Role Qualifications
  • 3-4 years of related professional experience in building engineering and design (electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, audiovisual and low voltage systems or similar)
  • Relevant two-year technical degree (e.g. AS Engineering Technology), or higher
  • Experience with both AutoCAD and Revit design software required
  • AVIXA Certified Technology Specialist (CTS-D) certification preferred (not required)
  • General understanding of commercial and institutional AV technology applications, building systems, and design/construction processes, including familiarity with audio systems, video display technologies, collaboration solutions, digital signage, AV signal management, integrated control systems, data networking, HVAC, electrical, lighting, building controls, security, and AE design documentation.
  • Suitable environment for audio and video calls, 90+% remote work anticipated.  Minimal travel required (<10%, mainly for training and occasional staff meetings or project site reviews)
