Job description

The ACLU seeks an Undergraduate Social Media & Store Intern in the Communications and Marketing department of the ACLU's National office in New York, NY. This internship can be remote or hybrid.
Qualifying applicants must currently be matriculated undergraduate students or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience and must be based in the U.S. for the entire duration of the internship.
The Team:
The ACLU Communications department creates, maintains, and expands message narratives to engage our supporters and other target audiences, to help protect and expand civil liberties and civil rights, and illustrate the value and impact of the ACLU's transformational work. Through our messaging, engagement with newsmakers, our written content, creative branding, and visual identity, we encourage support for the ACLU and help to build a more perfect union.
What You'll Do:
The social & store intern will be responsible for aiding in running the store in the most efficient, cost effective, and profitable way possible. We welcome new and creative merchandise and marketing ideas. The social & store intern will also be responsible for assisting the ACLU's social media team in researching, producing, scheduling, and measuring the performance of content posted across Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, Bluesky, Threads, and emerging platforms as needed.
Your Day to Day
  • Regular online store updates including: product photography, product page set up, copywriting, digital marketing support, and more.
  • Applying research on latest industry trends to help brainstorm new products, merchandise strategies, and promotional campaigns.
  • Collecting and analyzing budget, inventory, and sales data using Excel.
  • Social media copywriting
  • Social media metrics: supporting metrics reporting and data analysis.
  • Producing social media content. This includes scripting, on-screen appearances, and TikTok production

What You'll Bring:
  • Previous ecommerce experience for a major brand or retailer
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel and comfortable analyzing data
  • Experience using social media for professional, academic, or extracurricular purposes.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to work independently as well as in a team.
  • Strong computer skills, particularly web-based research including proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (i.e. Word, Excel)
  • Attention to detail, excellent written communication skills

Internship Logistics:
  • Location: Our internship program offers a limited number of remote or hybrid intern positions. This internship is full-time from our New York City office and can be remote or hybrid.
  • Time Commitment: Fall internships can be part-time (10,15,20 hours/week) or full-time (35 hours/week)
  • Internship Duration: Part-time internships span 12 consecutive weeks, and Full-time internships span 10 consecutive weeks. This internship has a start date of: September 8th or September 21st
  • Stipend: A stipend is available for students who are lawfully authorized to work. Arrangements can be made with educational institutions for work/study or course credit.
    • Below are the stipend rates:
      • $20/hr for undergraduate students or equivalent experience

This internship must be tied to the intern's formal education program by integrated coursework or the receipt of academic credit.
