What are Remote Academic Advisors?

Remote Academic Advisors are professionals who provide guidance and support to students regarding their academic goals, course selection, and degree requirements, but they do so virtually rather than in person. Using phone, email, video conferencing, and online platforms, they assist students with academic planning, troubleshoot registration issues, and connect students to resources, regardless of their physical location. This role is especially important for online learners or students who need flexible access to advising services.

How do Remote Academic Advisors effectively support students and maintain engagement despite working virtually?

Remote Academic Advisors use a variety of digital communication tools—such as video calls, emails, and instant messaging—to provide personalized guidance and build relationships with students. While working remotely can present challenges in fostering connection, successful advisors often develop strong organizational skills and proactive communication strategies to ensure students feel supported and engaged. Collaboration with faculty and campus resources is also key, typically occurring through virtual meetings and shared digital workspaces.
