The Opportunity

Joining Black & Veatch offers a dynamic opportunity to work alongside diverse, multidisciplinary teams on pivotal Water and Wastewater projects. You will contribute to essential municipal initiatives, helping to shape and strengthen infrastructure that supports communities today and prepares them for the challenges of tomorrow. As a BIM Coordinator, you will act as the central resource for BIM/CAD questions on assigned projects, ensuring seamless coordination and successful project outcomes from inception through completion. 

The Virtual Design & Data Solutions (VDDS) Staff Engineering Technician/BIM Coordinator plays a vital role in delivering superior engineering outputs for complex municipal water and wastewater systems. Ideal candidates bring deep technical proficiency-especially with Autodesk tools such as Revit, Civil 3D, and Forma-as well as expertise in Navisworks and other leading collaboration platforms common in the municipal water sector.

Key Responsibilities

Technical Expertise & Guidance 

  • Manage and resolve complex technical assignments specific to BIM and project requirements. 
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to other professionals, fostering skill development and knowledge transfer. 
  • Be recognized for proficiency in one or more specialized areas, such as BIM software, modeling standards, or project coordination. 
  • Receive and execute special assignments that leverage advanced technical expertise. 
  • Develop and implement strategies for integrating emerging technologies and workflows into existing BIM processes. 

Coordination & Collaboration 

  • Coordinate with design group personnel to review and exchange essential project information, ensuring seamless communication and integrated design development. 
  • Organize and lead presentations for project stakeholders, delegate tasks related to production design, and oversee the implementation of electronic applications. 
  • Support field activities by assisting with onsite data collection, troubleshooting model discrepancies, and facilitating field-to-office information flow. 
  • Facilitate interdisciplinary coordination meetings to resolve design conflicts and ensure all disciplines are aligned on project deliverables. 
  • Communicate proactively with external partners, consultants, and clients to clarify requirements and manage expectations. 

Quality Assurance & Production Monitoring 

  • Monitor production processes to ensure consistency and accuracy of deliverables, implementing quality control measures as needed. 
  • Assist discipline or department management in developing, updating, and communicating design standards based on industry best practices and project requirements. 
  • Actively participate in process improvement initiatives to enhance efficiency, reduce errors, and maintain high standards across all BIM deliverables. 
  • Verify that all delivered models and drawings adhere to client and regulatory standards. 
  • Document and report on project progress, flagging risks and recommending corrective actions as needed. 

Training & Development 

  • Identify training needs for supervised staff and recommend suitable learning opportunities. 
  • Participate in and contribute to training by sharing expertise via workshops and peer instruction. 
  • Deliver presentations or formal classes to boost BIM team skills. 
  • Stay up-to-date with industry trends and keep the project team informed of best practices. 
  • Maintain a repository of training materials and process guides for reference. 

Project Planning & Support 

  • Assist in developing project execution plans, including the BIM Execution Plan, and ensure alignment with client goals and company procedures. 
  • Support resource allocation by anticipating staffing needs and identifying skill gaps within the team. 
  • Assist with project closeout activities, including archiving digital models, conducting lessons learned sessions, and compiling as-built documentation. 
Preferred Qualifications
  • Diploma or Certificate preferred.
  • Associate Degree in Drafting or an Engineering Design Related Technology preferred.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Typically a minimum of 5 years related work experience.
