PSI seeks an experienced, visionary, and strategic Country Representative (CR) to lead PSI Nigeria into its next chapter of transformative impact. This critical leadership role requires a bold and dynamic individual who can seamlessly navigate high-level representation, strategic program leadership, technical stewardship, and people management. The CR will be responsible for anchoring PSI Nigeria within the country's evolving health landscape, positioning it as a go-to partner for government, donors, and the private sector, while ensuring strong alignment with Nigeria's national health priorities and PSI's global strategy. With a deep understanding of the donor landscape and a sharp eye for opportunity, the CR will champion the expansion of a robust and diversified funding portfolio by cultivating new relationships, forging strategic alliances, and advancing locally driven resource mobilization efforts.

The Country Representative reports to the Regional Representative, East and Southern Africa and collaborates closely with PSI's global support teams.

What You'll Do

  • Proactively cultivate and secure funding opportunities that align with PSI Nigeria's strategic vision and programmatic priorities. Identify and pursue new and emerging opportunities across bilateral, multilateral, philanthropic, and private sector sources. Build and maintain strong relationships with institutional donors, foundations, UN agencies, government stakeholders, and implementing partners. Oversee the development of high-quality, competitive proposals and strategic donor engagement efforts to expand and diversify the organization's health and development portfolio, ensuring long-term sustainability and measurable impact. 35% of Time
  • Provide visionary and strategic leadership to steer PSI Nigeria's direction in alignment with both the organization's global mission and Nigeria's national health priorities. Champion adaptive, forward-looking approaches that anticipate and respond to the dynamic health and funding landscape, ensuring the platform remains agile, relevant, and impactful. Drive strategic coherence across all program areas, while ensuring effective delivery, robust risk management, and full compliance with donor expectations and organizational standards. Lead and empower the Senior Management Team to foster a culture of collaboration, innovation, accountability, and high performance, creating the conditions for sustained growth and excellence. 20% of Time
  • Ensure compliance of all activities (i.e. financial, minimum standards, program quality assurance, donor regulations) and that all audit recommendations are implemented according to schedule. Proactively perform risk assessments to identify and mitigate risks, including operational, financial, legal, contractual, reputational and safety and ensure mitigation actions are implemented. 20% of Time
  • Oversee program budgets, financial and internal controls; assure timely and accurate financial reporting as required by PSI Global and donors. 15% of Time
  • Develop and enforce field office(s) administrative policies. Promote an ethical environment in line with PSI's values. Maintain a working culture that fosters diversity, equity, and inclusion. Develop and maintain systems that ensure the safety and security of staff and assets in all aspects of work per best practices, PSI operating standards, and field realities.

What You'll Bring

  • Bachelor's Degree (or international equivalent) in a related field.
  • Master's Degree (or international equivalent) in a related field (e.g., MBA, MPA, MPH) preferred.
  • At least 10 years of senior-level leadership experience in public health or development programs in Nigeria or similar contexts.
  • At least 5 years of supervisory experience.
  • Demonstrated work experience in similar operating environments.
  • Proven ability to navigate political and donor environments, engage with senior government officials, and lead high-stakes negotiations.
  • Strong track record in successful fundraising and managing complex donor portfolios (e.g., USAID, Gates Foundation, DFID/FCDO, Global Fund, etc.).
  • Fluency in English with excellent writing skills. Foreign language skills required depending on location.
  • Demonstrated leadership and passion for building technical, management and leadership capacity.

Salary Ranges:*

PSI is committed to pay equity and transparency. We ensure pay meets the market within each country. This approach minimizes our impact on local talent markets and allows PSI to attract and retain employees, while staying cost-competitive.

Actual base salary compensation will be determined by factors such as a candidate's qualifications, experience, internal equity, external market analysis, and other business factors permitted by law. Hiring above the mid-point of the range below would not be typical in order to allow for potential future salary growth.

PSI is offering the following gross annual salary ranges for this position, dependent on candidate location:

  • Pay and benefits will be commensurate with the role and practices of the local office, including payment in local currency. Details will be provided during the interview process.
