Job description

The Eagle County Sheriff's Office is searching for a Detentions Case Manager who will serve as a crucial bridge between incarceration and a successful, stable return to our community.

In this role, you are a strategist, an advocate, and a community builder. You will work directly with inmates to assess their needs, secure post-release housing and employment, and navigate the systemic barriers to reentry. In addition, you will help coordinate our jail's volunteer programโ€”onboarding, orienting, and managing the passionate community volunteers who bring life-changing programming inside our walls.

If you want to apply your human services background where it is truly needed most, this is your opportunity to drive systemic, positive change.

Hiring Range: $30.21-$36.25. (The maximum pay for this position is $42.29).

Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8am-5pm.ย  Slight flexibility can be offered, but employee should be in the office during daytime business hours.ย ย

Applicants are encouraged to apply by 8am Mon, August 10th, however, the job will be posted until filled.ย

*Employee housing available.

  • Connect to Resources: Build robust partnerships with community organizations, treatment facilities, and local housing/employment resources.
  • Coordinate Releases: Assist inmates with applications for housing, healthcare, and vital post-release services so they have a soft landing on day one of their release.
  • Navigate Barriers: Provide non-judgmental guidance and creative problem-solving to help inmates overcome immediate roadblocks to self-sufficiency.

Volunteer Program Leadership

  • Manage & Mentor: Partner with the Administrative Supervisor to oversee jail programming and serve as the central contact for our volunteer network.
  • Onboard & Train: Lead facility tours, run orientations, and coordinate secure files for incoming volunteers.
  • Ensure Smooth Operations: Direct weekly schedules, address day-to-day volunteer concerns, and keep everyone up to date on jail security procedures.

Qualifications:

  • Experience: At least 4 years of increasingly responsible experience in case management, social services, criminal justice, or related field, or equivalent education, training and experience that produces the required knowledge, skills and abilities.. Previous case management, social work, or human services experience is preferred.
  • Education: A Bachelorโ€™s degree in Social Work, Criminal Justice, Social Sciences, or a related field is highly preferred.
  • Bilingual Skills: Bilingual fluency in English and Spanish is highly preferred and qualifies for our county bilingual pay incentive!
  • Travel: A valid driver's license and satisfactory motor vehicle record. This role involves travel throughout the beautiful Eagle River Valley for community outreach.

Core Skills & Mindset:

  • Communication: Strong interpersonal and de-escalation skills to collaborate effectively with inmates, jail staff, and community partners.
  • Organization: Excellent time management to handle high-volume caseloads and coordinate time-sensitive reentry logistics before release.
  • Problem Solving: Strong critical thinking to creatively navigate systemic barriers and connect clients with limited community resources.
  • Compassion & Boundaries: A non-judgmental, empathetic approach to client care, balanced with the strong boundaries required in a correctional setting.
  • Teamwork & Relationships: Ability to work seamlessly within a multidisciplinary team of security personnel, medical staff, and outside providers.
  • Cultural Competence: Willingness to establish and maintain respectful, professional relationships with clients from a diverse population and backgrounds.
