Recycling Sales Specialists are responsible for prospecting and supporting new commercial and industrial business growth as well as retaining and increasing current customer recycling business to grow tonnage at the Recycling facility. This position requires cold calling on commercial and industrial accounts in the field to generate new recycling volume for the Rumpke Recycling and Resource Center.

Shift: *Flexible Shift*

Responsibilities of Position:

  • Secure new recycling business from multi-family residences, businesses, municipalities, and/or from special events/activities
  • Support new business and maintain existing relationships with existing large commercial and industrial generators of recycling materials
  • Identify leads, manage prospects, and support acquiring new business
  • Cultivate existing customers’ recyclable volumes from commercial, retail, and industrial accounts
  • Prospect and develop recycling opportunities for all material or commodity types (i.e. OCC, office paper, mixed, co-mingled, aluminum, glass, etc.)
  • Coordinate efforts with hauling and recycling operations to pinpoint and service existing high-volume recycling opportunities
  • Routinely interact and meet with Recycling management to review weekly sales activities, progress on goals, and status of prospective customers
  • Determine customer needs and propose appropriate services
  • Meet or exceed the new business goals of tons to the recycling facility
  • Conduct cold call and prospecting activities that result in scheduled first appointments and follow-up appointments with decision-makers at businesses and/or contractor sites
  • Ensure all lead source business opportunities are quoted profitably
  • Prepare and deliver sales proposals/presentations to key decision-makers that result in closing the sale
  • Propose customer solutions that are compliant with appropriate local, state, and federal regulations
  • Utilize the company’s CRM tool daily, scheduling and documenting activities, and developing prospective customer profiles
  • Support sales team in gaining customer service agreements for new and existing recycle business
  • Submit and review reports and other paperwork in a timely manner and in accordance with Company policy
  • Develop and maintain an awareness of market behavior and competitive trends and respond accordingly
  • Attend weekly sales meetings
  • Periodically set up and conduct tours of the Recycling and Resource Center for potential and current customers
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Supervisory Responsibility:

  • This position will not manage employees

Skills & Abilities Needed for Position:

  • Highly motivated individual who is a self-starter with professional demeanor and ability to work independently to meet/exceed goals
  • Possess strong presentation, negotiation, and closing skills and the ability to present and communicate in a professional manner
  • Must be organized with good time management skills
  • Possess proven analytical/problem-solving skills
  • Proficient in Windows and Microsoft applications

Experience & Knowledge Needed for Position:

  • Minimum two (2) years outside business-to-business sales with a proven track record of success
  • One (1) year of experience in a customer-facing sales role (business to business)
  • Previous cold calling experience
  • Preferred recycling/waste industry experience and/or working with contractors
  • Experience in developing and executing territory sales strategies

Physical Requirements in a Regular Workday:

  • Rarely lifting/carrying/pushing/pulling a max of 10 lbs
  • Occasionally working outside in changing temperatures, wet/humid conditions
  • Occasionally working in areas of dust, odors, mist, gases, and other airborne matter
  • Frequently sitting/standing/walking

Additional Working Conditions/Aspects:

  • Exposure to residential and commercial waste
  • Ability to travel between offices, as required
  • Ability to work flexible hours; expected to work nights and weekends as needed
  • Ability to work overtime, weekends, and/or holidays
  • Must be available for 24-hour emergency calls
  • Legally eligible to work in the United States
  • Valid driver’s license (if applicable)
  • Must successfully complete pre-employment testing
  • Must be able to read and speak the English language
