Position Summary

The Recreation Director oversees, plans, and implements recreational activities designed to promote student engagement, socialization, and physical well-being while supporting the mission of Stewart Home & School. This position is responsible for managing daily, evening, weekend, and special event programming while fostering an inclusive, fun, and safe environment for all students.


Please note: This position is responsible for our evening and weekend recreation program, so availability during those times is essential.


Key Responsibilities


Program Development & Implementation

  • Develop and implement daily,      evening, weekend, and special event recreational activities tailored to      the unique needs of students with intellectual disabilities.
  • Oversee a variety of activities,      including sensory experiences, arts and crafts, fitness, games, social      events, and community outings.
  • Ensure all programs are engaging,      accessible, and appropriate for students' abilities and interests.
  • Adapt activities to accommodate      diverse physical, cognitive, and sensory needs.

Event Planning & Coordination

  • Plan and coordinate seasonal      celebrations, themed events, field trips, and school-wide recreational      activities.
  • Collaborate with other      departments to enhance the overall student experience.
  • Manage logistics for off-campus      outings, ensuring safety, accessibility, and meaningful participation.

Leadership & Safety

  • Maintain a safe, structured, and      positive environment for all recreational activities.
  • Recruit, train, supervise, and      evaluate recreation staff while promoting professional growth and      teamwork.
  • Ensure staff and volunteers      understand and follow all safety protocols and best practices.
  • Oversee the care, maintenance,      and appropriate use of recreational equipment and facilities.

Collaboration & Communication

  • Work closely with school      leadership, staff, and families to ensure recreation programs meet student      needs.
  • Communicate activity schedules,      special events, and program updates to students, staff, and families.

Administrative Responsibilities

  • Maintain records of attendance,      participation, and student engagement.
  • Order, organize, and maintain      recreation supplies and equipment.
  • Assist with budgeting and      planning for recreational programming as needed.

Compensation

Requirements:

Qualifications
