Job description

Job Summary:ย  In accordance with the organizationโ€™s mission, vision and values, the Housing Counselor is responsible for assisting participants in securing and maintaining housing, establishing goals and case management to work towards financial stability.ย  The following duties will apply:

Duties

  1. Responsible for independent completion of case management duties
  2. Screening and waiting list management
  3. Preparing and training clients in searching for securing and maintaining their own housing.ย 
  4. Develop & maintain relationships with area landlords including direct contact and negotiation of rental termsย 
  5. Securing participants funding sources and collects participantsโ€™ share of the rentย 
  6. Maintain case management files including eligibility, income & rent calculations, and client progress.
  7. Monthly one-on-one appointments and inspections of residencesย 
  8. Develop and maintain positive and effective relationships with community groups, referral sources, planning, funding and service agenciesย 
  9. Demonstrates teamwork and an ability to work in a team environment with coworkers and supervisors.ย  Demonstrates the ability to be flexible and cooperativeย ย ย ย ย 
  10. Assures all documentation is completed in a timely and accurate manner in compliance with agency/OASAS regulations, practices, policies & proceduresย 
  11. Demonstrates professionalism by providing quality service and care with respect and dignity for the clients and as a representative of FLACRA
  12. Participate in general, staff, in-service and supervisory meetings held by the Agency
  13. Perform other duties and functions as directed.

Minimum Qualifications:ย  Associates Degree in Health/Human Services strongly preferred and/or experience in vocational counseling in behavioral health care.ย  Valid NYS Driversโ€™ License.

Other Skills/Knowledge and Experience

  1. Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  2. Valid driver license required as well as maintaining personal vehicle's valid registration and inspection for use to independently visit various client sites, transport clients to/from appointments, interact with key stakeholders/providers in the community as well as attend community meetings on a regular basis
  3. Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and work cooperatively with culturally diverse persons, staff and community service providers
  4. Knowledge of local behavioral health service system
  5. Ability to multi-task, have good problem solving & time management skills and the ability to remain calm in a crisis
  6. Proficiency with documenting in E-record.
