Job Description
Develop into a Quarry Manager role by supporting all aspects of site operations, including safety, production, cost control, and team leadership. The employee will assume responsibility of the manufacturing process and/or sales functions to ensure that all work is performed in a safe and efficient manner and while maintaining the prescribed product quality standards at the highest possible level.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
  • Oversee and direct all aggregate operations, including quarry development, drill/ blast, aggregate plant operations and mobile equipment maintenance and selection at assigned locations.
  • Act as the person responsible for all site activities not specifically managed through other lines of business.
  • Enforce company safety rules and conduct safety meetings, including tool box talks; ensure facilities are operating in a safe manner.
  • Identify and resolve regulatory, safety, personnel, and production problems, in a timely and effective manner.
  • Ensure that all operations are in full compliance with federal and state regulations, including MSHA, DEP, etc.
  • Maintain strong customer & supplier relationships.
  • Cost responsibility at assigned aggregate facilities. Strive to lower cost and increase productivity through efficiency and innovations.
  • Conduct daily shift start-up meetings with plant and quarry personnel to discuss safety, quality and performance goals
  • Review and maintain accurate cost and production forecasts.
  • Conduct annual evaluations of direct reports.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, procedures and work rules; discipline when necessary and document all employee performance issues.
  • Assist with all PJK training initiatives
  • Ensure that the workplace is kept in a neat, clean, tidy and safe condition. This includes the crusher, office, storage areas, and yard.
  • Work with other PJK personnel (equipment, admin., delivery, construction, & sales staff) to maximize PJK profits and minimize conflicts.
  • Maintain proper job records such as schedules, personal diary, etc.

Other Requirements
  • Strict adherence to safety requirements and procedures as outlined in the Environmental, Health & Safety Manual.
  • Display a professional and courteous attitude to co-workers, supervisors, customers and the general public at all times.
  • Must be willing to work nights and weekends when necessary.

Supervisory Responsibility
Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the company's policies, procedures, and applicable laws. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Assist with Interviewing and hiring process as necessary.
  • Planning, assigning, and directing work.
  • Willingness to develop subordinates' technical and leadership skills and make recommendations for new job opportunities when appropriate.
  • Effective management of employee performance through coaching, feedback (written and verbal), rewards, and discipline when necessary.
  • Appraising performance.
  • Addressing complaints and resolving problems in a timely manner.
  • Lead by example.
  • Ability to get work done through others using effective delegation, scheduling, and time management practices.

Personal Protective Equipment
Individuals are required to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) in designated operations and production areas. Protective equipment required for this position: Gloves, Hearing Protection, Hard Hat, Eye protection, High Visibility Clothing, Respiratory Protection, Safety (hard toe) Shoes.
Education and/or Experience
Bachelor's Degree preferred. Individuals must 3-5 years of experience in construction aggregate production management.
Language Skills
Ability to read and interpret documents, reports and company manuals. Ability to write detailed correspondence, effectively present information and be able to respond to questions from management, staff, customers and the general public.
Mathematical Skills
Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divides in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute, rate, ratio, and percent and draw and interpret bar graphs and knowledge of trigonometry.
Reasoning Ability
Ability to recognize problems and put forth reasonable solutions by establishing the facts. Ability to interpret data from reports, project specification or project plans.
Computer Ability
Must demonstrate the ability to use a computer to communicate and analyze data. This includes the use of Outlook, Excel, Word and Scheduling software (Microsoft Project/Primavera, etc.).
