Job description
As a Maritime Operations Manager, you will oversee the safe, efficient, and strategic use of the Port's 10 maritime properties while serving as the primary point of contact for facility operations, utilization, pricing, safety, security, regulatory compliance, and construction coordination. You will build and maintain strong relationships with vessel operators, terminal users, industry partners, agencies, and internal stakeholders to support exceptional customer service, business development, and the growth of Port revenue and regional economic value.
- You will oversee daily operations for multiple maritime facilities, including dock scheduling, storage utilization, event coordination, security, and compliance with USCG and safety regulations.Â
- You will manage facility assets and maintenance activities by coordinating with staff, contractors, and Port Construction Services to support operational efficiency and capital improvement projects.Â
- You will develop and manage operating and capital budgets, enforce rates and tariffs, and ensure accurate billing and compliance with Port agreements and policies.Â
- You will build and maintain strong relationships with customers, tenants, industry partners, agencies, and the public while representing the Port through presentations, meetings, tours, and communications.Â
- You will support environmental and sustainability initiatives by promoting best management practices and ensuring compliance with environmental regulations across all assigned properties.Â
- You will identify business development opportunities, support pricing strategies, market available facilities and services, and contribute to maximizing Port revenue and facility utilization.Â
- You will stay informed on maritime industry trends, operational practices, and emerging issues to support strategic decision-making and future Port development.

You will provide on-site leadership and respond to incidents, emergencies, maintenance needs, security concerns, and other operational issues across Port facilities.
- Experienced - You have four (4) years of experience in operations and/or facilities.
- Desired - We hope you have six (6) years of leadership in the Maritime business, facility management, terminal operations, and/or marketing.

- Maritime Operations & Business Management Expertise - You demonstrate expertise in maritime terminal and vessel operations, labor relations, regulatory compliance, lease administration, and accounting practices. You effectively manage operations, assets, budgets, and competing priorities using strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills, supported by proficiency in Microsoft Office and PeopleSoft.
- Effective Communicator & Collaborator - You have strong verbal, written, and active listening skills with the ability to communicate complex information clearly, and collaborate professionally with customers, tenants, industry partners, agencies, and diverse stakeholder groups.
- Driver's License - You will need a valid Washington State Driver's License, or the ability to obtain one, is required in order to travel locally to project sites.
- Work Schedule - Your normal work schedule will be Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. (40 hours per week). However, this position requires participation in a shared 24/7 on-call rotation and the ability to respond outside of regular business hours as needed, including weekends, holidays, and emergency situations.
- Work Environment - This position will primarily work on-site, with limited telework flexibility at management discretion due to the operational nature of the role. The majority of the work will be performed in an office setting, with the remainder conducted outdoors in all weather conditions and may involve exposure to high noise levels and hazardous materials.
- Washington State Residency Requirement - Employees must establish a residence in Washington state within 30 days of their first day of employment and must maintain a residence in Washington State during their employment with the Port of Seattle. If a position is eligible to telework, work performed while teleworking must be performed in Washington State.
- Safety Requirements - You will be required to comply with all work rules, safety, and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) requirements.
- Security Requirements - As the successful candidate, you must obtain a Transportation Worker Identification Card (TWIC) within the first three months of employment.Â
