Position Summary

The Quality Control Specialist exercises sound judgement to assure compliance with the Agency's mission and Lending Quality Control Plan. This role executes the pre-closing review process for Wholesale/Broker and Portfolio Retention loans in accordance with the Home Ownership Programs Lending Quality Control Plan. The Quality Control Specialist conducts manual file audits, performs underwriting review, and analyzes quality control findings to identify trends and root causes. This role supports the Senior Quality Control Specialist in their work with outside lender partners resolving quality control findings and repurchasing issues. This position reports to the Senior Quality Control Specialist.

MassHousing operates under a hybrid work model; therefore, employees are expected to work on-site according to a schedule determined in collaboration with their manager and based on the needs of the role. To support effective onboarding, new employees may be required to work in the office more frequently during their first 90 days.

Essential Functions

Compliance and Quality Control

  • Manage the pre-closing review process for Wholesale/Broker and Portfolio Retention loans in accordance with the Home Ownership Programs Lending Quality Control Plan
  • Review underwriting decisions, appraisals and loan documentation ensuring Agency and investor compliance
  • Monitor and analyze the quality of Agency originated mortgage loans through curated reporting
  • Present pre-closing Quality Control and internal vendor audit findings to Home Ownership Business Line Management and the Quality Control Committee on a monthly basis
  • Prepare for and participate in investor risk assessment audits
  • Assist Senior Quality Control Specialist in external vendor and lender quality control functions

Security

  • Comply with MassHousing's Information Security Program and all other Agency information security policies and procedures
  • Take responsibility for any Agency assets assigned to you
  • Promptly report any security events, incidents, or weaknesses to MassHousing's Information Security Team

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in business administration, accounting, communications, or equivalent professional experience
  • 7+ years of experience in the mortgage industry with an understanding of mortgage origination operations and departmental responsibilities
  • Experience with state and federal laws affecting the mortgage banking industry and mortgage banking quality control programs
  • Proficiency with Encompass, LoanServ, OnBase, Microsoft Word and Excel, and Outlook
  • Eligibility to work in, and travel freely to and from, the United States without sponsorship

Preferred Qualifications

  • 7+ years of underwriting or quality control experience in the residential mortgage industry, including Government Sponsored Enterprise (GSE) and Federal Housing Administration (FHA) loans
  • Experience with MassHousing's program requirements
  • FHA Direct Endorsement Underwriter approval
