Position Summary:

A Purchasing Agent is responsible for all purchasing functions for assigned vendors. The Purchasing Agent also supports the company's quality management programs by providing effective customer service to internal and external customers. The Purchasing Agent also helps maximize the efficiency of the distribution center operations. 

Essential Duties, Responsibilities, and Expectations:

Meet with vendors and brokers to discuss new products and supplier updates.

Source and set up products to support the company's sales.

Provide merchandising support to Sales and Customer Support departments by giving suggestive alternatives as well as providing feedback.

Work closely with the distribution center supervisors to monitor and replenish inventory levels in a timely manner to help control expenses.

Log and communicate product issues and communicate to all personnel involved.

Maintain purchasing files and keep information accessible in electronic and/or physical files.

Minimize cost of goods with manufacturers and suppliers through negotiation on best possible pricing. 

Negotiate with suppliers to obtain credit on return authorization for short-coded, obsolete, excessive, or damaged inventory. 

Order products from manufacturers via our ERP system to verify information on purchase orders.

Responsible for ordering samples from manufacturers and knowing when and how to pull from inventory. 

Create item numbers in our ERP system to maintain pricing on stocked items

Ability to read and interpret documents properly 


Education and Work Experience Requirements: 

Minimum of five (5) years' experience in purchasing preferred 

Bachelor's degree preferred 

Proficient in Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, and Outlook
