Job description

General Position Summary:
Will assist the Purchasing Manager in negotiating and transacting with approved suppliers for the purchase of all materials, supplies, equipment and services used by the Port. Will also be responsible for materials management and production control.
Essential Functions/Major Responsibilities:
  • Assist in Purchase of all production materials.
  • Maintain inventory for key stock items.
  • Assist in Managing purchase requisition process.
  • Assist in Distribute requests for quotation to approved suppliers, evaluate bids, and award business.
  • Ensure on-time delivery of supplier product and follow-up on material shortages and past-due material from purchase orders.
  • Assist in identifying, evaluating, and developing potential new suppliers.
  • Support receiving process by enforcing and assisting with material identification, tagging, and shipping instructions with suppliers, etc.
  • Driving a port owned vehicle to pick up any needed supplies
  • Receiving and unloading all freight and supplies

Secondary Functions:
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by supervisor.

Specific Job Skills:
  • Good organizational skills.
  • Must be able to operate a forklift.
  • Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English.
  • Ability to work outside in different climates including cold, wet, hot and windy conditions.
  • Ability to stand for long periods including bending, stooping and reaching.
  • Must be able to pass a pre-employment background check and drug test.

Education and/or Experience:
  • High school education or equivalent required.

Job Conditions:
Working conditions include working alone and with others, forklift operation, working outside in varying weather conditions, and frequent interruptions. The employee may be required to work in an environment where there are fumes, building temperature fluctuations, noise, chemicals, poor ventilation, dirt, dust, chemicals and extreme outside weather temperatures.
