Job description

PURPOSE:
  • The Shop Mechanic is responsible for the assembly, disassembly, inspection, repair, and testing of pumps and rotating equipment in accordance with company standards and API specifications. This role requires mechanical expertise, attention to detail, and commitment to quality workmanship to ensure equipment reliability and customer satisfaction.
 
RESPONSIBILITY:
 Principal Accountabilities
  • Disassemble, inspect, and evaluate rotating equipment such as centrifugal pumps, gear pumps, and related components per API 610/682/685 standards. 
  • Perform precision measurements and record clear inspection data to support accurate failure analysis and repair planning. 
  • Assemble and test pumps and equipment following manufacturer specifications and Progressive Pumps quality standards. 
  • Operate shop machinery safely, including lathes, mills, presses, and grinders. 
  • Maintain and calibrate shop tools and equipment as required. 
  • Support continuous improvement efforts related to shop safety, quality, and efficiency. 
  • Follow and enforce all company safety policies and procedures. 
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization per 5S standards. 
  • Accurately complete documentation such as job travelers, inspection reports, and test data sheets. 
  • Assist in maintaining shop inventory of tools, equipment, and consumables. 
  • Communicate effectively with Planning and Engineering teams regarding scope of work and equipment conditions. 
  • Support training of junior mechanics and apprentices when needed. 
  • Participate in quality audits and corrective actions to ensure compliance with QA standards.
  
Experience
  • Pump technical knowledge (In shop environment) : 6+ Years  
 
Knowledge
  • Strong knowledge of pump types, components, and repair procedures under API standards. 
  • Skilled in using precision measuring tools (micrometers, calipers, dial indicators, etc.). 
  • Ability to interpret mechanical drawings, assembly prints, and schematics. 
  • Competence in documenting inspection results and job data. 
  • Good computer literacy (Word, Excel, Outlook). 
  • Effective communication and teamwork skills. 
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to meet production schedules.
