Job description

PROPERTY TAX MANAGER

We are seeking an experienced Property Tax Manager responsible for managing property tax compliance, audits, and appeals processes nationwide, and leading all aspects of property tax strategy and savings initiatives. 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Gather and review data and coordinate with external service providers to prepare personal property tax returns across all U.S. states
  • Work with the fixed asset accounting team to ensure accuracy in data and reporting
  • Review assessment notices to identify any discrepancies and savings opportunities
  • Perform tax technical research related to property tax matters and stay informed on changes in property tax laws and trends
  • Manage external consultants and track and review progress, establish and communicate clear expectations
  • Work with government affairs team to identify new, and maintain existing, reimbursement programs, abatement agreements, and other incentives that provide property tax relief
  • Identify property tax savings opportunities and collaborate with internal stakeholders and cross functional teams to develop and execute property tax appeal strategies
  • Prepare property tax audits responses and resolution
  • Prepare and maintain tax calendar or database for property tax payments, filings, and appeal activity and results
  • Ensure timely payments of property tax bills as well as assist in various administrative matters
  • Resolve tax notices and similar matters
  • Assist with special projects and process improvement initiatives for other indirect tax matters
  • Facilitate annual site inspections with county appraisers

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, tax, real estate, finance or other business disciplines
  • 6+ years of work experience as a property tax professional in consulting firm or at a multi-state company

PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Professional experience with Microsoft Excel 
  • Strong knowledge of property tax laws, assessment and valuation methodologies
  • Experience with managing relationships with external consultants
  • Experience with appeals process in Texas, and other states
  • Familiarity with other areas of state and local taxation
  • Experience with property taxes related to the manufacturing industry or complex properties
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • This position is based in Hawthorne, CA (Los Angeles area), and requires being onsite full-time - hybrid and remote work will not be considered
  • Willing to work extended hours as necessary

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:

Property Tax Manager: $135,000.00 - $185,000.00/per year

Your actual level and base salary will be determined on a case-by-case basis and may vary based on the following considerations: job-related knowledge and skills, education, and experience.

Base salary is just one part of your total rewards package at SpaceX. You may also be eligible for long-term incentives, in the form of company stock, stock options, or long-term cash awards, as well as potential discretionary bonuses and the ability to purchase additional stock at a discount through an Employee Stock Purchase Plan.
