About the Role

The Huntington Library, Art Museum, and Botanical Gardens is a world-class research and educational institution precisely because the dedicated people who bring their exceptional talent and expertise to work every day make it not just a wonderful place to work, but truly a magnificent treasure for members and visitors.

Working under minimal supervision, the Capital Programs Project Manager provides Facilities project management services for the division and institutional initiatives and programs. They will manage capital improvement projects from $10k to $10M, manage proposals, on a diverse range of projects including office improvements, hardscape, space planning, and utility infrastructure improvements.

The Capital Programs Project Manager also defines project requirements and needs by working closely with all divisions across the institution. There will be frequent contact throughout the organization in addition to vendors, donors and board members. The role will directly report to the Senior Facilities Project Manager.

The successful candidate should have a proven record of building relationships across all levels of an organization, must be an effective manager of resources (both human and financial), and fit well within an institutional culture that values collegiality, trust, and transparency.

Candidate Requirements and Experience

  • Strong written and oral communication skills, with a positive outlook towards problem solving.

  • Degree in Architecture, Engineering, Construction Management, or related field.

  • At least five years' experience leading complex construction projects, with at least one project at a budget level of $5M.

  • Demonstrated experience leading projects of various sizes involving multiple user groups with both internal and external stakeholders.

  • Strong organization skills.

  • Project planning, organizing, managing withing constraints of time and budget.

  • Deep understanding of project-related risks.

  • Self-starter with complex problem-solving capability and initiative. Understands and addresses issues in a timely fashion.

  • Professional judgement and ability to handle confidential communications.

  • Reads and interprets plans, specifications and other technical documents.

  • Strong customer service skills, with ability for active listening and clear communication.

  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, MS Project (or other scheduling software), AutoCAD and Bluebeam.

Working Conditions

The Huntington Library, Art Museum, and Botanical Gardens is an extensive and diverse campus; the Associate Project Manager will have an office but be required to operate in all interior and exterior environments.
