What do project management consultants do?

Project management consultants analyze project requirements, develop plans, and oversee execution to ensure objectives are met on time and within budget. They use tools like Gantt charts and methodologies such as PMI or Agile, often working with cross-functional teams and stakeholders to improve project efficiency.

Project Management Consultants are professionals who help organizations plan, execute, and complete projects efficiently. They provide expert advice on project planning, resource allocation, risk management, and process improvement. Their goal is to ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to the desired quality standards. They may work across various industries and often assist with implementing project management best practices, tools, and methodologies.

How do project management consultants typically balance the needs of multiple clients and projects simultaneously?

Project Management Consultants often work with several clients or manage multiple projects at once, which requires strong organizational and time management skills. They rely on proven project management methodologies, effective communication, and digital tools like project tracking software to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines. Regular check-ins with stakeholders and clear documentation help ensure that each project's objectives are met while maintaining high quality. This fast-paced, dynamic environment offers variety but also demands adaptability and proactive problem-solving.

Job Description

Our Western Canada Team is looking to grow and expand, offering unique opportunities to engage with high-profile clients and drive transformative initiatives across diverse industries. We are seeking an exceptional Management Consultant with a strong background in Project Management and experience in Consulting, Utilities, IT, or Oil & Gas.

The ideal candidate will bring a solid understanding of industry best practices, a broad knowledge of business and technology solutions, and hands-on experience managing complex business processes or technology transformation projects. In addition, the candidate should demonstrate an understanding of emerging AI capabilities, including Generative AI and agentic AI, and how these technologies can be applied responsibly to improve productivity, enhance decision-making, streamline operations, and support innovation across client environments.

As a Project Manager, you will lead and oversee complex initiatives from planning through delivery, ensuring projects are completed successfully, on time, and with a strong focus on client satisfaction. You will work closely with stakeholders to identify opportunities for process improvement, technology enablement, and AI-driven transformation, while helping clients navigate change and adopt new ways of working.

If you are a results-driven professional with a proven track record in project delivery, consulting, and transformation across any of these sectors — and you are interested in helping organizations leverage both traditional and emerging technologies, including AI — we encourage you to apply and be part of our dynamic and growing team.

Must be local to CALGARY and the surrounding area – and willing to work in a hybrid environment with a combo of remote and on-client site.

**Please note the following:

  • Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis, and the position will remain open until a suitable candidate is found.
  • While our offices are located in Alberta, you may be asked to work East Coast hours should our client have that requirement.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with clients to define business objectives, scope, success criteria, and project strategy.
  • Develop and manage project plans, timelines, milestones, resources, risks, and dependencies.
  • Build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, ensuring clear communication and alignment throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Facilitate meetings, workshops, and status updates to support engagement and decision-making.
  • Lead project execution, ensuring delivery remains on scope, schedule, budget, and aligned with quality expectations.
  • Monitor performance, resolve issues, and maintain project momentum.
  • Define and track KPIs, conduct post-implementation reviews, and apply lessons learned to improve future delivery.
  • Mentor and coach team members while staying current on industry trends and project management best practices.
  • Demonstrate strong management consulting capabilities, including structured problem-solving, analytical thinking, executive-level communication, stakeholder management, business case development, and the ability to translate complex and ambiguous business challenges into practical, actionable recommendations.
Qualifications

Mandatory Requirements:

  • Experience working in Consulting, Utilities, IT, or an Oil & Gas is a must.
  • A leader with 5-10+ years experience working as a Project Manager, including experience on complex, high-visibility, and enterprise-wide/cross-functional projects
  • Proven track record and ability to collaborate with and influence large stakeholder groups representing a variety of roles, functions and business areas
  • PMP certification (or equivalent)

Other Skills & Experience:

  • Experience with Change Management and incorporating OCM best practices to your work.
  • Strong and succinct communication, presentation and facilitation skills. Ability to interact with leadership, key business stakeholders, subject matter experts and technical team members.
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, software engineering or information technology (or equivalent education plus experience)
  • Adept at navigating complex, multi-dimensional business and technology environments utilizing structured and systematic thinking and approaches combined with available and often incomplete information to identify and execute on critical path priorities.
  • Critical thinker and problem-solver with the ability to adapt as information, project and environment variables evolve.
  • “Someone who doesn’t have all the answers - but knows how to get them”
