Project Engineer Contract Jobs (NOW HIRING)

The City of Aberdeen is seeking a highly qualified Project Engineer (Contract) to manage and oversee a major utility infrastructure project from inception through completion. This position is being established specifically for this project and is anticipated to last a minimum of 24 months. Employment will continue through the completion of the project.

This position will be open until September 9, 2026.  To be considered for the position, applications must be received by 5:00 p.m. on September 9, 2026.

Duties:

The Employee shall perform construction-phase engineering, construction administration, and construction inspection services for the Utility Improvements project and other City capital projects as assigned. The duties include:

• Maintain an online or City-approved project document-management system for construction records, including meeting minutes, payment applications, requests for information, submittals, schedules, and related correspondence.
• Chair the pre-construction meeting with the successful contractor and prepare and distribute meeting minutes.
• Receive, log, coordinate, review as appropriate, and distribute project submittals and requests for information.
• Chair monthly construction progress meetings and prepare and distribute meeting minutes.
• Plan, facilitate, and participate in public meetings and project-update meetings as directed by the City; prepare or coordinate presentation materials, progress updates, meeting summaries, and follow-up items.
• Meet with affected residents, property owners, neighborhood representatives, and other stakeholders as needed to provide project-progress updates, explain anticipated construction activities and impacts, and address project-related questions or concerns.
• Remain reasonably available during normal City business hours to receive and respond promptly and professionally to residents' project-related questions by telephone and email; coordinate with City officials, consultants, or the contractor when additional information or follow-up is required; and maintain appropriate records of substantive communications.
• Review monthly project-schedule updates for general conformance with contract requirements; detailed digital schedule-logic review is excluded unless separately assigned.
• Coordinate field inspection and testing activities in accordance with contract requirements and City standards, including coordination among City staff, consultants, contractors, and independent testing agencies.
• Conduct or coordinate site visits at substantial completion and final completion; document deficiencies; issue punch lists; verify corrective work; and recommend substantial- and final-completion acceptance when appropriate.
• Coordinate with the contractor and affected parties to facilitate construction activities and address day-to-day project issues.
• Review contractor as-built submittals and record drawings to document final field conditions and coordinate preparation of final record documents as assigned.
• Provide part-time or full-time construction observation and inspection, as directed by the City, to assess general conformance with the contract documents; promptly document and report observed deficiencies, safety concerns, and material deviations.
• Prepare field reports, photographs, quantity records, payment-support documentation, and other construction records requested by the City.

Term — The term will run the entire length of the project.
